ellyfant, We don't have a lot of high-tech things but even on the desktop, I can be looking for 'that one thing' & find it's hours later! I learned to set a timer & unplug often. When we think of it, we find that all these gadgets tend to Increase our anxiety & isolation 'cos they ARE addictive.

Now this totally freaked me out yesterday. Twice i'd been having totally random conversations with different people about unusual topics and moments later email/advertisements appeared on my laptop and or phone related to the topic. I had done no googling, asked for no information on the web and yet somehow the company knew either I or the person I was talking to was interested and might want to buy their product so contacted me. Big Brother really is watching you !

ellyfant We got a new computer w/ Windows 10. I turned Cortana off right away. But annoying part is, they can turn themselves back on. So I have a note to check often to be sure they are off. Smart phones, Smart TVs, they don't use that word 'smart' for nothing. Try to look into your settings to see if you can turn those features off. New computer monitors have a webcam built in the top. Those too can be turned on by themselves. We are still using our old monitor but our laptop, we put a piece of black tape over it. & like w/ Cortana, check to be sure the microphone is turned off.
