healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2020/10/20/cats-can-recognize-their-own-names.aspx Story at-a-glance Ever notice that your dog comes running every time you call him, but your cat responds so infrequently you sometimes wonder if she even knows her name? Recent research suggests feline family members do recognize their names and do respond with subtle body movements, though often their response is so understated it goes unnoticed Dogs have a considerable head start on domestication over felines; in addition, whereas dogs are a social species, cats are naturally independent and may never evolve to come running, as dogs do, at the sound of their name Since cats very much prefer life on their own terms, your best bet for positive interactions with your kitty is to wait for her to make the first move My notes: My cats respond to their names, even if they don't come lol But one, when she's out in the enclosure & I call her, she comes running, meowing on the way Do your cats come when called? @shaliza @catsmother @lilac @marti

I'm not a cat lover and this is one of the reasons. They don't seem to have the response and affectionate natures that dogs do so just ignore you unless it suits. Not all of course, but the majority in my experience

It actually depends on the cat. The majority of the cats I've owned have answered to their name 99% of the time. Now, if I call one of them, all three tend to show up! They are very much bonded to me and I to them.

Our cats know their names too.
