www.familyhandyman.com/article/tips-for-driving-in-winter "Driving in snow and ice presents many challenges. Here are six winter driving tips to keep you safe when the roads get treacherous. According to the Federal Highway Administration, more than 70 percent of American roadways are in snowy regions and more than 1,300 people are killed annually on snowy or icy roads. Making sure you’re ready to drive on those roads this winter can save your life, or the life of someone you love...." My notes: Article continues in link. I personally hate driving period & more so in the winter.

This is going to be very useful because I just passed my driving test and I am not looking forward to driving in snow/icy conditions for the first time. Chances are, we won't get much snow though in London.

The best way to avoid a skid is to drive in a way where you don’t put yourself into a situation where it can happen.

I am originally from Iowa. Iowa has a lot of snow during the Winter and we learned to drive in it. Now, I'm living in western Colorado, and most of the people drive way too fast when there is snow and ice. Learn to slow down, that's the key.
Good article ZandraJoi,

www.familyhandyman.com/list/13-winter-driving-mistakes-that-could-put-you-in-danger "Safe winter driving is as much about being cautious as it is avoiding dangerous mistakes. We asked winter driving experts about the worst winter driving errors that could put you in danger...." My notes: I like these tips! Another one I'd like to add is to keep extra blankets, boots, gloves as well as matches, candle in a coffee can so if you DO get stranded, you will be able to stay warm. What mistakes have you made? What tips could you add? @shaliza, ash, joshi, @dazzal, Emerald

My bad if I missed it. I would pack food as well, if having to venture out in inclement weather/ice. (Protein bars and things that pack well.)

Chances are, we won't get much snow though in London. It's funny coming back to this because we ended up getting some snow in January and February. Driving in the snow wasn't too bad especially as it was my first time. Luckily I bought one of those ice scrapers for the windscreen as well which came in handy.

There is certainly a skill to it. One thing is you need to keep going at a steady speed, even though your senses are saying not to. Well, if a road is seems impossible, then you might have a tendency to give up. Well, I did on this one mountain road near where I lived in Southwest Virginia, USA. Therefore, I just slid the truck into a snowed-in church parking lot.
Anyway, another big thing about driving in ice and snow is to not slam on the breaks. This would be true also with rainy conditions.

We have a survival kit in our vehicle. Everybody should have one.
