The way it’s pronounced, I tend to think of an X for eXpresso. Plus I think of it as being expressed which is a word whereas espress isn’t lol

I never really thought about it, but instinctively I would use the X because of how it sounds when pronounced, LOL.

Yes, I remember thinking that it was spelled with an 'X' when I was younger. The way everyone pronounces it certainly makes it sound like it is. On a side-note, I can't stand espresso or any type of coffee. XD

I have always pronounced espresso but I searched on Merriam Webster dictionary and it says, "Espresso remains the original borrowed word for the beverage, but expresso shows enough use in English to be entered in the dictionary."
