Have you ever noticed that people won’t take the time to look up important information, but they’ll spend 15 minutes taking a quiz to find out what kind of potato they are?- Unknown (from Why don’t you try this)
I hate the Hey Suri, remind to go to the store. Hey Suri, remind me to watch such & such. Get a paper & pen & write it down yourself! People are getting so dumbed down. They don’t even know how to WRITE anymore. They’re not exercising their brains. We need to get another computer but I hate upgrading. Plus we are not for the advancing technology. The new comps come w/ that Cortana. These devices record what people say. Can turn themselves back on. Can override commands. I love technology in being able to talk to people all over but there’s a quote I love: They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.- Benjamin Franklin

www.naturalnews.com/048416_smart_grid_home_appliances_government_control.html“Increasingly, our freedom and autonomy are threatened by those who seek to monitor and control every aspect of our daily lives. George Orwell's "Big Brother" from the novel 1984 is a pale threat in comparison to the dystopian reality our leaders which have created for us since that book was published more than six decades ago.” My notes: Older article but is coming into play. I had read before it’s a way to CONTROL. Like Oh sir, you have the thermostat up too high, we will turn it down. & you can’t do much ‘cos it’s all remote. It’s not just turning it off if you don’t pay the bill, it’s controlling your usage. Oh, you opened the fridge at 3 am for 2 minutes. Just more ways THEY want to take control. & WE won’t have much choice ‘cos newer appliances are being fit w/ them. It’s the fact that they can, against your will. But you can guarantee that people like Bill Gates won't have theirs controlled. They will just pay more if they have to. It will really only effect the little people like us.

I keep my profiles barebones. Esp. on Facebook. I honestly don’t care for FB lol but ‘everybody’ does it so… Whatever is posted on social media is free game for anybody else. Been way too many lawsuits, esp. w/ people posting pics of their little kid in a bathing suit. Pics that were then used for nefarious ways. But even tho I don’t have much of a choice, I DO have a choice in what I put on my profile & how much I use it.

www.whydontyoutrythis.com/2017/02/why-you-should-never-discuss-personal-information-in-front-of-smart-tvs.html "Samsung has confirmed that its “smart TV” sets are listening to customers' every word, and the company is warning customers not to speak about personal information while near the TV sets. The company revealed that the voice activation feature on its smart TVs will capture all nearby conversations. The TV sets can share the information, including sensitive data, with Samsung as well as third-party services. The news comes after Shane Harris at The Daily Beast pointed out a troubling line in Samsung's privacy policy: “Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party.” Samsung has now issued a new statement clarifying how the voice activation feature works. “If a consumer consents and uses the voice recognition feature, voice data is provided to a third party during a requested voice command search,” Samsung said in a statement. “At that time, the voice data is sent to a server, which searches for the requested content then returns the desired content to the TV.” The company added that it does not retain or sell the voice data, but it didn't name the third party that translates users' speech." My notes: Unfortunately, newer TVs come with the 'smart' stuff. Ever realize the smarter appliances are, the dumber they make us?

Yes I could become quite paranoid about 'smart' stuff. I thought I was quite safe, never touched FB or anything similar, and then a couple of times i've been talking to someone on Skype and my smartphone interrupted the conversation making comments or offering information. Scary for me to know that i'm no longer anonymous nor private and all my information is available for anyone who wants to know more.
As for dumber, yes definitely. Why take the time to start taking notes and trying to remember stuff when you just dictate it quickly into your favourite tech gadget and it's saved - in the machine but definitely not in your memory and i've noticed mine is declining

What’s really scary is like the new Cortana in Windows 10. You can turn her & the webcam (that are also built right in!) but they can magically get turned back on. Without Your Knowledge! That is bull! I hate the commercials Suri remind me to… I wrote that in the first post here lol

I wouldn't get them even if I could afford it. It does stuff people need to do on their own. It takes away from thinking. The only thing I would like about having a smart home is, to have the heat turned up before I get home and lights on. I'm not trusting of high tec stuff.

I have never used Siri or Alexa for that matter and don't plan to, anytime soon. I actually like looking up stuff and learning new things everyday. I find I retain the information a lot better if I put in the effort to look for it.

Smart appliances certainly have their pros and cons. There are still a lot of people who write things down vs dictating them (that's even talking about the younger population). I wouldn't say it's making us lazy, per say. Our world as a whole is changing every day, things are moving faster and there are more stressful expectations placed on us. The smart devices are meant to help us now that we live this way. Does it sometimes take up too much of our time (i.e. social media) and keep us from going outside when we probably should, absolutely. But could you imagine dealing with this pandemic without it at this point? Sure terrible things have happened in the past and we found ways to keep in communication, but not to the scale technology has been helping us. I have a love-hate relationship with technology to say the least, but I can't deny the positives of having it.

Smart appliances are not worth the trouble. For every convenience, there's a trade-off. Don't need Big Brother to know when I cook my roast.
