“National Trails Day on the first Saturday in June recognizes all the incredible benefits federal, state and local trails provide for recreation and exposure nature. Events held throughout the United States help promote awareness of the wide variety of services the trails systems offer. The day encourages people to discover their local trials, become active concerning trail issues, and share their excitement for the outdoors. While hiking may be the first activity to come to mind, trails offer so much more! Trails provide access to waterways for canoeing and paddle trips. Birders find excellent opportunities for birdwatching and those seeking to test their abilities to observe and study geolocation enjoy geocaching. Others learn land navigation or use the trails for biking. Each of the pursuits creates an opportunity to spend time outdoors and generate an excellent cardiovascular workout. National Trails Day is also an opportunity to thank the many volunteers, land agencies, trail developers, park employees, and rangers for their help in developing and maintaining the trails.”
My notes: We love going on trails! We don’t do it as much as I’d like tho. We need off-leash ones (she does good off leash, not so good ON lol) for our dog & they are hard to find.

"‘Tis the season to celebrate National Gingerbread Day. While that may sound strange, on June 5th each year, gingerbread lovers across the country celebrate by sampling their favorite recipes and gingerbread treats. Whether in the form of bread, cakes, bars, biscuits, or cookies, they’re delicious any time of year.
The term “gingerbread” originally referred to preserved ginger, later referring to a confection made up of honey and spices.
Gingerbread is a sweet food that typically uses honey or molasses rather than just sugar and is flavored with ginger. Gingerbread foods range from a soft, moist loaf cake to something closer to a ginger biscuit. It is believed that gingerbread was first brought to Europe in 992 by an Armenian monk. He lived there for seven years teaching gingerbread cooking to the French priests and Christians until his death in 999.
Sources indicate that in 1444, Swedish nuns were baking gingerbread to ease indigestion.
In the 17th century, gingerbread biscuits were sold in monasteries, pharmacies and town square farmers markets. During the 18th century, gingerbread became widely available."
My notes: I love ginger & gingerbread cookies. They are quite good!

While many people love ginger and everything you can make with it...I'm not a big fan of eating it...I'd rather just smell it :-)

"Today is June 5 on the National Day Calendar and it’s National Start Over Day to remind you it’s perfectly fine to start over! Today’s National Day is about making the decision to accept failure and start over, from scratch. Do you remember that old saying “if at first you don’t succeed, then try, try again?” All of us seem to have heard it one time or another in our life. We can all agree it has been used to inspire us to never give up and keep trying. Today, we want to remind everyone despite any setbacks you may have, don’t give up! Keep going, even if that means starting over."
My notes: Apt name as my weekend was long lol How are you going to start over today?

I haven't a clue what I'm going to do to start over. When you're retired, everyday is a Saturday! Side note: today is also the day that Senator Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated.
