I had an old Desktop PC which had 2 GB Ram currently and the system is Pentium 4. The system is going very slow when opening new windows or programs. I am looking to add one more 2GB ram since its maximum is 4 GB, so does this will increase speed of PC? Also can I add old RAM or new RAM any advice greatly appreciated.

It will increase the speed but 8 GB of ram seems to do the best. 6 GB if you are pushing it in order to save money. I tend to never buy a computer with less then 8 GB but in the past haven't been able to afford much myself so have mostly dealt with 8 GB of ram. You can switch ram sticks out from the mother board. It's mostly not that hard. They are mostly ram sticks that are attached to the motherboard and click out. Do a quick google search to see how.

If the max is only 4GB I'm not sure if it will make much of a difference with the bloat that Windows has these days. Even a browser uses so much memory that my system sometimes locks up until Firefox decides to calm down. You can give the new ram a try but don't expect instant speed.

If it's possible for you to add or increase the RAM of the system, there is a possibility that it's gonna increase the processor speed.

It all depends on what your computer can support. Does the CPU and Motherboard support higher speeds and more ram? Not all pieces can support more. My motherboard can support up to 128 GB of Ram in mine but I only have 64 in it currently as I don't want to overdue it with that price tag for 128 gigs.
