"On July 21st, National Be Someone Day challenges each of us to take ten seconds to make a difference in a child’s life. What can you do in ten seconds? We can shift gears or water a plant. We can hear or tell a bad joke. In ten seconds, we can change our minds, and after doing so, say a prayer of thanks. When we walk into a room, in that time, we can register the pain in someone’s eyes and begin to provide comfort. We can praise and honor someone who deserves it. We can also commit to reporting child abuse. On July 21st, take the pledge to be the person to make a difference in a child’s life. Most importantly, be someone prepared to report when a child trusts you enough and tells you they are experiencing abuse. Ten seconds can change a child’s life."
My notes: Very good day to have as a reminder!

Great idea for a National Day!
Lots of things you can do, and ways you can help, in ten seconds, that's for sure.
In fact, for some things, you don't even need all ten of those seconds:-)

"July 21st dedicates a giant menu of items to National Junk Food Day. Each year, the day permits us to chow down on the foods we usually don’t include in our daily diet. Junk foods, by definition, typically contain high fats, sugars, salt, and calories and very little nutritional value. With the advent of packaged foods during the late 1800s, junk food made its way into American life. Still, home-cooked meals remained the standard for several more decades. Eventually, after World War II, the artery-clogging industry took off. Since the population ate out more, traveled more, the industry was primed to produce products at an increased rate."
My notes: If you do have junk food, try to limit it & make it organic. Really savor the taste. Make it a nice treat.

"July 21 is National Lamington Day on the National Day Calendar. This delicious food holiday celebrates Australia’s most famous culinary icon, the Aussie lamington. Today, we are encouraging people to try lamington while spreading the word about this tasty cake. Lord Lamington, Governor of Queensland, Australia from 1896 to 1901 receives credit for creating the lamington. Lamington consists of a sponge cake dipped in chocolate. After dipping the cake in chocolate, he decided to sprinkle the cake with fine pieces of coconut. The rest is delicious history!" My notes: I've never heard of this. Anybody in Australia or the surrounding areas have? T.T.
