โObserved annually on August 7th, National Lighthouse Day honors the beacon of light that for hundreds of years symbolized safety and security for ships and boats at sea. At one time, the beacon of light could be found across almost all of Americaโs shorelines. A lighthouse is described as a tower, building or any other type of structure that is designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and used as an aid to navigation for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. A lighthouse serves multiple purposes such as marking dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, and reefs providing safe entry to harbors. They also provide aerial guidance. Once lit by open fire and candles, theyโre now brightly lit by electric or oil-fueled lamps. However, the number of lighthouses are declining. Maintenance is expensive and modern electrical navigation systems are replacing them.โ
My notes: I live in Michigan, USA & with our Great Lakes, we have quite a few lighthouses. Weโve visited a few of them. The history is quite intriguing!

Lighthouses are amazing! I really enjoy visiting when we can and learning more about them...they have a fascinating history.
And, a good place to start is Michigan, with it's Great Lakes. It gives you many lighthouses to choose from.

"Purple Heart Day, on August 7th, commemorates the creation of the oldest American military decoration for military merit. The Purple Heart honors the men and women who are of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. During the American Revolutionary War, the Badge for Military Merit decorated six known soldiers.
General George Washington created the Badge of Merit in 1782. Washington intended the honor to be presented to soldiers for โany singularly meritorious action.โ Its design included a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk bound with a thin edge of silver. Across the face, the word Merit was embroidered in silver. While the badge symbolized the courage and devotion of an American Patriot, no one knows who designed the award.
Until Washingtonโs 200th birthday, the Purple Heart persisted as a Revolutionary War footnote. Through the efforts of General Douglas MacArthur, the U.S. War Department created the Order of the Purple Heart. Today the medal bears a bust of George Washington and his coat of arms."
My notes: The Purple Heart denotes bravery from the men & women who fought hard for our country. Honor them today & every day!

Those men and women are very brave and should be treated with respect.

The Purple Heart only goes to the Bravest of the Brave. It's important that we honor them and show our gratitude, by our words & deeds

"Have you ever looked out over the water and thought you saw a fantastic creature break the surface? Well, in August 1848, several men aboard the HMS Daedalus couldnโt believe their eyes when they looked out upon the South Atlantic. Several passengers and officers on a voyage to Saint Helena spied a 60-foot-long creature bearing a peculiar maned head above the ocean water. National Sea Serpent Day commemorates this siting and the many other stories that continue to be told."
My notes: What do you think about sea serpents? There's reports we are finding new creatures, not necessarily sea serpents, so it wouldn't surprise me if they exist.

I don't know about sea serpents but in my Naval voyages I've seen many sea snakes.
And Beany and Cecil (featuring Cecil The Seasick Sea Serpent) was my favorite cartoon as a kid.

You're welcome. They're pretty like you said but you have to remember they're venomous if you come upon one.
