This one made me very emotional, as it brought back memories of beloved Charlie, a rescue we adopted many years ago and you would not believe how much like him dear Ara looks. So glad she found a forever home

“Pit Bull Who Was Scared Of Men Falls In Love With His New Dad | The Dodo Pittie Nation”
My notes: Breaks your heart to hear of abuse of any creature but then you get a flipside of how much the dog opens up with love & patience.

12tomatoes.com/k-9-finds-missing-toddler"A missing child is every parent’s worst nightmare – and time is of the essence. Law enforcement (and every armchair detective) know the first few hours are crucial. The longer a person is missing, the greater the likelihood he or she won’t ever be found. So when frantic parents called an Ohio sheriff to report their three-year-old son missing, Deputy Frank Bleigh knew there was no time to waste. Fortunately, Bleigh had the perfect detective in mind. His name was Bandit, and this four-legged detective (and his keen sense of smell) was born to solve these types of cases. Sure enough, the Ohio K-9 detected the missing boy’s scent almost immediately. Within 10 minutes, Bandit and Bleigh had found the missing boy. Much to his parents’ relief, the toddler was found just a quarter mile from his house. Deputy Bleigh and K-9 Bandit started the search at the front of the house and within 10 minutes Bandit had located the child,” the sheriff’s department posted on Facebook. “This is exactly why we have dog units, watching this track you could tell very well that Bandit had the scent of the child and was well on his way to finding him,” the sheriff continued. “I would like to thank Frank and Bandit for a job well done and it was so amazing to watch this unfold.”"

12tomatoes.com/heroin-puppyrescue"Pup Found In Car Suffering From Heroin Overdose Finds Forever Home Police in Carrollton, Texas, helped save a dog who accidentally overdosed on her owner’s heroin. The Carollton Police Department shared this poor Chihuahua’s story on Facebook. “A shift patrol officer found the puppy suffering from a drug overdose Saturday,” officers wrote. “Pup was left in the floorboard of a truck in the Home Depot parking lot while its humans were busy inside switching price tags.” Fortunately, the horrible people who did this were arrested for heroin possession and fraudulent destruction, removal or concealment of writing. The dog, now being called Lucky, was treated by Dr. Stacie Fowler and the staff at the North Texas Emergency Pet Clinic and has happily made a full recovery. “Puppy is on [its] way to full recovery from opiate overdose and is back in the care of The City of Carrollton Animal Adoption Center,” rescuers confirmed. Nobody — including the police — knows how or why this puppy was given heroin but the City of Carrollton Animal Adoption Center was flooded with adoption requests after the puppy’s close call went viral. According to People.com, adoption requests came in from everywhere from California to New Hampshire. Three weeks later, Lucky was adopted by an adorable little girl and her family. (Shelter staff said on Facebook that another man came to pick up Lucky, but relinquished his claim after seeing the little girl’s excitement about getting a puppy). We’re so glad little Lucky has finally been adopted into a safe, loving, and drug-free home!" My notes: What the he--! Includes short news clip on it.

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2020/07/21/recovery-of-dottie-the-penguin.aspx Story at-a-glance When Dottie, an ailing African penguin at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, grew gravely ill, veterinarian experts feared the worst Finding that pneumonia as well as a mass in her chest was what made breathing and even standing difficult for the female penguin, she underwent round-the-clock care When Dottie was showing signs of failing, the Aviary’s zoological advancement director and veterinarian opted to allow Dottie’s faithful companion, Stanley, to visit her on a limited basis After months of care by veterinarian personnel, along with Stanley’s presence and encouragement, Dottie was able to return with her cohort to their colony at the Aviary African penguins are currently considered endangered due to several human factors, including overfishing of their food supply, human encroachment onto their nesting beaches and oil pollution My notes: Beautiful story! Just reinforces your belief that animals DO feel empathy.

12tomatoes.com/lt-rottweilers-save-horses "3 Intruders Plan To Slaughter Woman’s Horses For Meat—Until Pair Of Rottweilers Step In Authorities in Florida have recently been warning more owners about a statewide increase in horses being slaughtered and harvested for their meat. This is awful: authorities in Florida have recently been warning more owners about a statewide increase in horses being slaughtered and harvested for their meat. Horse theft and slaughter cases in various counties across Florida have left owners reeling and searching desperately for solutions. Brena Kramer of Zephyrhills knows about this horrific crime firsthand. She claims three intruders tried to slaughter her beloved horses for their meat. If it weren’t for Brena’s two rottweilers, she says things would have ended much differently. She believes the dogs chased off the intruders. Brena ran to their barn as quickly as she could and found one of the horses was left with a rope still tied around its neck. The horses were left with cuts and scrapes all over their faces, especially near their eyes, along with rope burns near their mouths. Brena is now sharing her story to warn other horse owners in her area and beyond. “It is common down South. It’s something most horse owners know about, especially in Florida,” she told Fox13. “They will bleed them out and start butchering while the horse is bleeding.” Thankfully, there are a couple of heroes who were watching over the horses during the incident. Learn more in this video " My notes: Why can't people just respect each other? Blows my mind! But another incredible Pet Heroes story!

12tomatoes.com/im-cop-helps-pit-bulls "Cop Responding To Call About Pit Bull Realizes She’s Hurt & Refuses To Leave Her Side It appeared as though the injured dog had been hit by a car and had a large gash in her leg. If you were to see an injured animal on the side of the road, what would you do? Would you stop? Call 911? Call Animal Control? It’s a sight many of us (thankfully) don’t have to see, but something that still occurs on a regular basis. Florida citizen, Patrick Hennessey, was driving into work at 4:30am one morning when he spotted two pit bulls on the side of the road, one of which looked to be injured. He decided to call 911 and thankfully for the dogs, two wonderful sheriffs showed up to save the day. Officers Boggs and Reed arrived at the scene where they found two pit bulls. One was badly injured while the other stayed by her buddy’s side, refusing to leave her alone. The officers eventually got the pups to warm up to them and got them out of the road. It appeared as though the injured dog had been hit by a car and had a large gash in her leg. The officers and Patrick worked together to bandage up the dog’s leg, then fed each of them some snacks — which quickly got the dogs to progress from just “warmed up” to full-on friends. The officers didn’t leave the dogs’ sides until Animal Services arrived. They ensured the pups were safe and would be well taken care of before handing them off and saying goodbye. After some rest and TLC, the injured dog was back on her feet and Boggs and Reed made their way to visit her and her friend once more. As soon as they arrived, the dogs remembered their heroes. They couldn’t stop loving on them! People from all over praised the officers for their kindness and compassion towards the dogs – particularly those who know how misunderstood the pit bull breed can be. Reed and Boggs were just glad they were able to help and see a happy ending for the sweet dogs." My notes: Beautiful, heartwarming story. Has pics!

blog.therainforestsite.greatergood.com/vet-makes-bird-shoes-for-deformed-feet"Vets Made Tiny Casts For A Bird With Deformed Feet I think this is a story we could all use right about now. It only takes a few minutes to read but it will make your day. A tiny Mockingbird that doesn’t even have a name recently ended up with the California Wildlife Center. They rescued him and took him in after they saw his feet were deformed. The little bird had ‘knuckled feet’, meaning that they folded in on themselves so it was impossible for him to walk or even perch comfortably. If the rescue group wouldn’t have stepped in, the little Mockingbird would probably have died. In addition, the bird probably had to deal with painful sores constantly. Thankfully, a solution was only one creative decision away. A team of veterinarians got busy creating a little set of shoes for the tiny bird. They made the shoes out of cardboard. The shoes were designed to help realign the little bird’s feet so that they were back in shape again. It took only one week and his feet were fixed. He was then able to get back to life as normal. They removed the little makeshift shoes and released the bird into the wild. I guess we could all use a little help sometimes." My notes: Awesome! Some people wouldn't even bother.

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2020/08/13/bunnys-buddies-saves-dogs-from-meat-trade.aspx Story at-a-glance Amanda Jo, from San Diego, California, received multiple nominations for our Pet Game Changers program Jo and her husband started a nonprofit dog rescue called Bunny’s Buddies, which focuses on rescuing dogs primarily in Asia, including animals that are intended for human consumption and are living in some of the most horrific conditions imaginable With the work of Bunny’s Buddies, which started about two years ago, 350 dogs have been saved Once in the U.S., Bunny’s Buddies partners with a full-time holistic veterinarian who helps the dogs get on better diets and repair their guts from poor food and excessive vaccination The organization partners with rescue groups in Asia and pays for animals to fly from Asia to the U.S.; the dogs are then fostered until they can find a home and are provided with veterinary care, treats, toys, collars and more

12tomatoes.com/awm-dog-trapped-in-hot-car "Dog Trapped In Hot Car Cries Out To Stranger For Help A woman was walking her dog when she heard the sound of a barking dog. But when she looked around, she didn’t see a second canine, although her own dog could clearly hear something too. But when Tina turned the corner, she was horrified to see the second dog trapped in a hot car. The temperature had risen to over 90 degrees that day, and the animal was frantically barking, pacing, and desperate for air. Tina tried to open the doors, but the car was locked up tight. So she called the police and begged the cops to come quickly. And although it, she took out her phone to take a video, which she figured could later be used as proof of the animal’s suffering. Right as she started to fear the dog die right in front of her, Deputy Kelly Fosler arrived on the scene and forced the car door open. Afterwards, Tina offered it some water, which he quickly drank. If the animal hadn’t been freed right at that moment, it likely would have perished. When the dog’s owner finally arrived, the women assumed he would probably be relieved to know his dog was alright, and probably a little apologetic. However, the owner’s response only filled the rescuers with dismay. “I don’t care,” the owner said bluntly upon learning of the incident. And when informed that the dog might have died, he responded angrily. “You guys have nothing better to do other than harass people like me and my dog?” he shouted at Deputy Fosler. The women were stunned. “I was shocked and angered at the same time, and also sad,” Fosler told Fox 31 News in Colorado in the following video. We really hope this callous old man has learned his lesson, even if he can’t admit it. This dog clearly deserves better." My notes: Then don't have a pet!! The nerve of some people. I really do wish we had the law of Do unto others, Eye for an eye. Put THEM in a hot car!

earthsky.org/todays-image/return-of-myanmar-smiling-burmese-roofed-turtle "The entire population of the Burmese roofed turtle – a large Asian river turtle with a permanently smiling face – was once down to a just few individuals in the wild. But late last month (August 25, 2020), conservationists from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) announced they had successfully raised 1,000 of the turtles in captivity. They said the smiling turtle will soon be ready for release into the wild. Burmese roofed turtles (Batagur trivittata) are considered one of the most endangered turtles in the world. In fact, the species was believed to be extinct until WCS/TSA conservationists, along with the Myanmar Forest Department, rediscovered it in the wild in the early 2000s. WCS herpetologist Steven G. Platt told the New York Times: We came so close to losing them. If we didn’t intervene when we did, this turtle would have just been gone. A statement from the WCS described how the conservationists recreated the turtles’ natural habitat: Sandbanks used as nesting sites by females are monitored, and eggs are collected and incubated under natural conditions at a secure facility in Limpha Village, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. The offspring are ‘head-started’ for eventual repatriation into the Chindwin River. With a captive population now approaching 1,000 turtles, the species appears in little danger of biological extinction. Complementary conservation efforts are focused on the remaining wild population, which consists of five to six adult females and perhaps as few as two males. These turtles are so poorly studied that no one had ever gotten around to describing the hatchlings until a recent study published in the journal Zootaxa. Bottom line: The Burmese roofed turtles – aka smiling turtles – were down to a few individuals in the wild, but conservationists recently announced they have successfully raised 1,000 of the turtles in captivity, and say the smiling turtle will soon be ready for release into the wild." My notes: I truly wish humans would think ahead. They don't own this earth.
