www.familyhandyman.com/list/worst-things-to-recycle "Don't make the mistake of throwing these items in your home recycling bin...." My notes: Includes: Lithium ion batteries. Shredded paper (some allow if in clear plastic bag). Loose plastic film like plastic bags & wraps (they clog the machinery, most stores take them back). Hoses, wire, extension cords.

And most electric car batteries I believe are lithium batteries. Not good for the environment.

Some things I've never recycled...it's just common sense.
But, I'll write this list down so I don't make any mistakes

Now that China isn't accepting our recyclables, how are things getting recycled these days?

Now that China isn't accepting our recyclables, how are things getting recycled these days? Good question! What I do is call & ask our local recycling facility what they do with the stuff. Ours didn't send to China anyways, which I appreciated. All the more reason to do the other R's i.e. Rethink what we are buying. I always thought it sad we shipped it over to China to be burned. Their polluted air is NOT just because of their own country. If it's waste in the USA, we should take responsibility & own up to that waste.

My local company said they're adding them to the landfill until a solution for recycling is found. That was when China stopped accepting them and I don't know if there has been an update yet.
I have no idea why the US isn't putting it into some of those big bills for maybe infrastructure to add recycling since it's important. Some of the things in these huge bills are senseless.

When I asked ours recently, they said they sent it to domestic partners in the Great Lakes region. I just have to take them at their word.
It's annoying because we are paying money for recycling & here they just pitch it! What's worse, people think they are doing their good deed & are not told it's just being landfilled.
Until bigwigs get their acts together (won't hold my breath), we just do what we can in our own house.

There are people in my town who buy electronic waste (batteries, mobile phones, etc.). Whenever I have to throw my electronic items I sell them (It is good that I can still get money from the items that are beyond repair). I put paper to recycle only if it is not plastic-coated paper.
