Do you know that we should waste some amount of food. A very small amount to be honest so that there are many other life forms who are now used to human food waste can make use of it. There are many species who have learned to co-exist with humans. Catsthese days somehow do not like hunting mice and choose human prepared food.

This is an interesting take on the food waste question. But does it really benefit or does it create a co-dependent eco system of smaller things depending on human waste food to survive?

I agree, this is an interesting take! I can think of pros & cons to both. While it's not good to feed wild animals as they become dependent on humans, the flipside is we are decimating their feeding grounds & hence why many animals are trekking closer to where humans dwell. We throw out food waste into the woods, our version of composting lol, 'cos I know some creature would make use of it. We've been fortunate to not be overrun with pests. Not to mention, when you throw out non-nutritious food like bread for the birds, they are getting full on empty calories so don't have the nutrients needed to survive the harsh winter. Yet, we also cut down fields & flowers where they get seeds from. Not an easy solution all around.

ZandraJoi spg, shole, Hmm, very interesting...hadn't really thought about it. But, yes, double-edged sword here...helps feed some animals and that's a kind thing to do. On the flip side, though, it isn't the best idea for the wild animals out there that should have the right skills to survive.

It's sad that so much food is wasted. There is more than enough food produced to feed everyone in the world, but it is distributed in such a manner that some people have so much food that they can't eat it all before it needs to be thrown away, while some are literally starving to death.

I so agree! Not to mention the huge portion sizes.

On our farm, we feed our animals with leftover food. We also spread food in the garden so that birds and other small garden animals (rats and squirrels, for example) can eat food.

This is true as my hens not interested to search for their food and they will appear at the door while we are eating.
I also noticed these hens won't eat without mixing dal or vegetable for them since it looks like they are in need of salt and chilli.
I can't argue with them so I have to give food for them atleast few cooked rice grains.

Food waste should be used as compost or fertilizer to grow vegetables. Food waste should not be used to feed wild species or feral domestics. There are far too many feral cats in most areas as it is now and you have people feeding them or other wildlife. There are actually species of waterfowl like Mallards that do not migrate as they're supposed to be because why waste energy on flight when you have a free, ready source of energy available in the bread crumbs and other scraps people feed them. That's why you have white ducks. They're not a natural occurring species.

Industrial mindset. Making profit out of everything. Inability to see beyond profit and the obvious. There is so much more than logic.

This is a great idea. One that I can happily abide by before the covid period. However, the inflation rate and high cost of meals means that sticking to this idea will mean spending more on food. A decision that I am not ready to make at the moment.
