What if you can open the door, get in, sit wherever you want and input the destination. That is all and the autonomous car will take you wherever you want to. Interesting is it?

When I was younger, I thought of how much this would save so much time. However now that we are in that era & all the computer glitches that can happen, it's one of those things that is a good idea but may not be feasible. Then if we have power outages, EM pulses to disable it, you are stuck.

Not the least bit interested...I agree, ZandraJoi, too much can go wrong:-)

I don't trust them at all. Also, who would be to blame for a crash? I just don't trust machines that much for reasons, some of which said in this thread.
I don't think it means I'm a chicken.

I can't trust the technology in self driving cars, either, too much to go wrong, and who knows if the person fixing them is fully up to date on the latest tweaks made to them, or knows what they're doing at all...too many variables. I want to be in control of my own transportation as much as possible.

jasonn, Nope, that doesn't make you a chicken...makes you smart..it means you're using common sense. And, PGen98, good point...the tweaks & the people 'fixing' them...who knows? It's kinda scary:-)

It makes sense not to trust self-driving cars. Of course, the alternative is to trust other drivers...and I'm not sure which I would trust less.

I would trust tech over some very " smart " drivers. I have seen cases of accidents where the driver actually slept during long drives causing many lives. I am not saying that driverless cars or other vehicles are 100% safe. But the way sensors work. They can calculate a crash much before it happens and stop or make a deviation.

Problem with all the tech however, people get dumbed down. They don't know how to do basic things. They rely so much on tech that they lose their sense of humanity. There has to be a balance but majority of people are either one extreme or another.

Reminds me a bit of when they were talking about our military dropping "smart bombs" in the conflicts in the Middle East. Somebody asked me about them, and I said, "I'd rather have dumb bombs and smart generals."

We get a lot of accidents due to drivers sleeping during night trips.

This is very interesting and believes it or not, some of these cars are actually already on the road. I have seen cab services use self-driving cars in select locations; these cars can drive themselves within a certain radius within a specific area. These cars are truly amazing. I own a 2021 Hyundai Sonata and it can drive itself for a short period of time, it gases, breaks, uses sensors, and various other functions. I believe it won't be too much longer until self-driving cards become an option for consumers around the world. Self-driving cars are very interesting.

We are not that far away from this and I'm sure we will have no choice in the matter when it comes to wanting to drive ourselves. I think cars will be hooked into a central computer system that will run everything.
Not that far-fetched.

They need to hurry up with self-driving cars. I want to be able to sleep, read or watch movies while the car drives me to 9-10 hour drive back to Ohio when I want to visit family.

This is happening as we speak and it wouldnt take long for this to go public, but i would fear that not enough testing has yet been done with detecting and preventing collissions, if tech experts can master this im sure that it may become safe and i may test it but as of this current time i wont just in case if a car thats automatic driving is released to public would think is it tested enough i wouldnt want to be in a crash.

Absolutely not! Too many things can go wrong. I want to be in control. Even when you do the driving, there is always a possibility of things going wrong as well. So, there is no big deal there.

Interesting but not something that I care about too much, to be honest. As a car lover, I like driving so it's not something I want to give up yet

These robots doesn't have much brain like human has so depending on such platforms one need free space for journey. Here in universities these types of cars available to travel within inside.
I too love such type, but we need to risk our life from accidents.

Honestly I'd be a bit too afraid to get in a self driving car. What if the car malfunctions and you end up in a accident, or hackers somehow manage to hack into the car? That's going to be a nope from me, if I had to get a ride to and from places I'd either just ask a friend or get a uber.

Self driving cars are definitely going to be more common in the future as tech advances. I mean even today we have them and they're on the roads each day.
Even after a few years of them being on the streets, I would be hesitant to get in one or purchase one. Technology can fail, even in the slightest of chances. Tesla has many accidents being investigated where their self driving features were in play

I think self-driving cars are cool because we would be saving time by doing other things like working on new tasks, making presentations, etc. We spend so much time commuting that self-driving cars will be a great time saver.

For now I would like to drive as I do enjoy it most days, but when I get older and can't drive as well, I would enjoy this a lot.

No freaking way. In fact, there was just a three-way accident in San Francisco involving all self-driving Teslas.
