So, my wife and I want to start a raised garden bed later this year. We have never done this before. Do you have any tips or suggestions? We don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but we do want it to be nice! (and fun for our kids!)

aaron101, It depends on if you want to build your own beds or use something else. How high you want them is key too. Our most recent ones we had simple cedar boxes filled with topsoil that was about 8-10" tall only. We did have a tall one before that but after several years, the legs gave way to the weight. Some people use horse troughs or cinder blocks. Those you may find cheap in ads. To help save money, buy the topsoil & mulch in bulk. Better yet, have a truck where you haul it yourself to save on shipping. If you are looking for mulch, some tree services, local electric company, or someone cutting down trees may give you a discount. Another idea for cheap mulch is to rake your own leaves & grass clippings & use those. Buying seeds is definitely cheaper than already established plants. Many do seed swaps. Let us know what all you decide on

Raised gardens are great for those with back pain too so we don't have to bend over.

There are some good raised bed gardens specific channels on youtube. I came across a lot of DIY on those channels. Maybe you can try them out. I also feel that making use of tins and doing something out of it that sort of space can be another good option.

I don’t have any proper tips aside from make sure you get plenty of tools and supplies. As with anything physical you build, you need to make sure you have the right tools to do the job at hand!

Raised bed gardens are becoming more popular. And, I really like the idea of horse troughs..they're long but not too wide, so they'd be easy to reach across.

I like creating raised gardening by using bricks as the retaining walls for the raised beds. I have seen people using wooden planks but this tends to be a little costly.

The ones with holes in them? A project I read is to build a wall with them & then you can use those cut portions to plant other things like flowers. One of the many projects I want to start lol This isn't the one I had but gives you an idea: Concrete block

aaron101, Do you like to grow any plants or vegetable and fruit plants too? It's not hard in gardening when you are in the field, but just give some time and hope is the main thing for succeeding part. When I started gardening lost so many plants due to so many reasons, but still continued what had left with me, never give up until you wins the race. ZandraJoi, Here people started to choose thermocol boxes as they told plants can grow better in them than any other containers. I have seen in Facebook groups, but never tried Thermocol boxes.

I've never heard of Thermocol boxes. Is it a variant of Styrofoam?
