www.familyhandyman.com/article/paper-towels-vs-dish-cloths “The easy, disposable nature of paper towels are a draw, but should you be using reusable dish cloths for kitchen cleaning instead?...” My notes: The way I think of it is this- To make brand new items, it requires a big load of energy & water. To wash by hand or in laundry, it’s much less. Not to mention having to pay the workers, run electricity, etc. Plus, our ancestors did just fine with reusing items.

We use both. For instances where there is the type of mess that I want to throw away sometimes a paper towel is more convenient. For hand-drying or quick light liquid messes we have rags and kitchen towels for those type of things.

I'll use paper towels for what's needed, like covering food in the microwave and what not, for actual use and other things I do use cloths that can be washed up and used again. Paper towels are expensive these days as well, so it doesn't make sense to throw money away on them.
I know a few people who buy strong paper towels and wash them and reuse them when possible.

We don't use paper towels, we use cloth towels for almost anything from wiping the kitchen counter to wiping the utensils. After eating, we don't use a tissue to wipe our mouth, we wish with water. Our expenses on paper towels and tissues are also zero.

sharon, demonskeith, lainee, nomad, Thank you all for your replies! For the microwave, we use a plate or a plastic lid (designed to cover microwavable items). Paper towels can be composted. So for those who still use them, if you don't want to add to landfill, put them in your compost! Many use cloth napkins as an alternative to Kleenex, going to the bathroom, & for women's monthly needs. For those who think it is ucky lol Think of back in the day when parents used cloth diapers!

Dish cloths. We do have paper towels for very greasy foods but we burn those when we are done.

We use only clothes in kitchen and never seen this paper towels here. Foam is used to wash in and around areas of stove and walls. I don't want to waste money on these things since a lot of old clothes are available in every home to wipe or anything in kitchen.

We cut up old clothes to use. & if people don't have enough of their own, there's garage sales & resale shops you can buy from as well. No need to buy brand new cloths!

I use a sponge for cleaning and chuck it into the washing machine. Dish cloths are for drying.
