www.familyhandyman.com/article/do-not-attach-other-keys-to-ignition-key "Too many keys on your key ring can have serious repercussions for your vehicle. It seems like every day there’s a new car myth to debunk. Will tune-ups really extend the life of your car? How about the idea that cold engines need to be warmed up before driving? But here’s one car conundrum that is not only true but can be dangerous when not properly addressed...." My notes: I've only had a couple of keys on my keyring. Same way I didn't like having any other things attached as I didn't like them hanging down & disrupting my driving.

I don't see why having a bunch of keys on the same key ring as your ignition is a bad thing. I don't want to have seven sets of keys to carry around on me during the day.

Yep, it IS interesting… I read all of it and first thought it was about something else..:-) This has to do with the weight of keys & the ignition.. I didn't know that…didn't even think about it… Also, yrs ago (I think it was way back when I was still watching 20/20..:-P).. the report made the point of don't put your house key on the same keyring as your car key. If someone steals your vehicle, they would also have your house key...makes sense

That is very interesting, and makes sense. Most people probably don't know it and don't even think about it. The one I use in the van to start it has just the ignition key on it. The ones in my pocket I just use to unlock the van, house etc.

`My home keys are always with ignition key only since I forget keys whenever required them also this avoids from robbery of our homes.
In these modern days we see a lot of people store keys in one place including ignition key.

Per the article: "Too many keys on your key ring can damage the sensitive interior components of your ignition cylinder" So I'm guessing the ignition cylinder is quite sensitive as far as weight goes. People can still have their keys. They are saying to be sure the ignition one is by itself.

It happened to my mother-in-law and then again by my daughter (we even warned her and she didn't believe us!). I forget how much it costs to repair, but here's the thing, if you take it to a dealer, they'll try to tell you that it's something bigger and overcharge you. Almost happened when we took our daughter's car in. Thankfully I was able to reason things out with the owner.

I don't like having a bunch of keys together anyway so thankfully it's not something I have to worry about.

This use to be a big issue, but more and more cars are becoming keyless in a sense and you just have to push a button to start your car. So I imagine in 10 or so years all cars should be button starting.
