healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/07/05/feline-depression.aspx Story at-a-glance Cats can seem depressed when certain behaviors are viewed through a human lens, but it’s much more likely there’s something going on either physically or environmentally that is creating stress vs. actual depression If your cat’s behavior changes, which is often the first sign of a health problem, your first stop should be your veterinarian’s office to check for an underlying medical condition In healthy cats, depression is often caused by stressors in their environment that need to be addressed and resolved Areas of stress for indoor cats tend to be visual, auditory, olfactory, diet-related, and/or somatic My notes: I like this. Is it stress or depression?

You wouldn't think they could get depressed.

It’s interesting that animals have emotions just like us, Dog especially do bond with us and cats can too.

I mean, if it's due to bad health, can it really be depressed? Besides that, how do cats that just eat sleep and run around ever get depressed? Unless someone was mean to lock them in a room/cage all day.

Unless someone was mean to lock them in a room/cage all day. I'm thinking their depression is different than a human's. I liken it more to stress. Example. Our male cat had urinary problems & from what I read, it can be depressed or stressed. Changes to the routine can be a major cause. However, we haven't done anything different. That WE knew about. Maybe the vibes were different from the other animals. We never know as they can't communicate effectively. For ours though, it was more their food. We feed them wet food which cleared up the problem. But we looked into all possibilities just in case.

Cats do definitely do have "sad" days like humans, you can definitely see a different mood.
