www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3495398/Startling-CCTV-footage-shows-credit-card-thief-installing-skimmer-payment-terminal-SECONDS-accomplice-distracts-store-clerk.html My notes: This is a few years old but good article nonetheless. The clerk found out next day. Uh… review the footage! What is the sense of having footage if you don’t CHECK it? The clerk saw that it came loose NOT what was on the tape. Makes you not want to use your card out in public. & I read before, NEVER! give your card to someone to pay a bill. Who knows who that person is ‘cos undercover has shown that some people have installed a skimmer under the counter. Be sure the card being scanned is where people can see it, not have the clerk/ hostess go under to ‘scan’ it. But then, you still won’t know if the scanner on the counter is real or has a ‘skimmer’ on it. You can’t tell. If you could, the crooks wouldn’t be in business! Problem is, more places don’t LET you use cash or checks. I prefer those 2 ways ‘cos they are safer.

I'm probably nowhere near as vigilant about identity theft as I should be. I am fairly certain anybody could find anything they needed in order to defraud me fairly easily online.

We don't do cards just for those reasons.

Getting identity theft protection is probably the wise thing. However, I just haven't gotten around to it. I figure it's another costly bill. However, look at the possible damage from ignoring things.
