healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2020/07/09/snakes-make-friends-with-other-snakes.aspxStory at-a-glance Snakes exhibit differing personality types and also have definite preferences about who they hang out with Garter snakes were placed in groups of 10 into an enclosure with four shelters, then watched as they chose who to reside with The snakes’ social networks were “disturbed” twice a day as the researchers shuffled their locations, but the snakes returned to their original groups Snakes may choose to stay in groups, especially when they’re young, to conserve heat and moisture and receive protection from predators The findings hint that snakes’ social lives are likely far more complex than realized and could help in the development of conservation efforts, which may need to consider sociability patterns in reptiles My notes: Snakes get a bad rap. They are needed for all of us to have a stable environment.

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/05/27/snake-season.aspx Story at-a-glance An estimated 150,000 cats and dogs are bitten by pit vipers, the largest group of venomous snakes in the U.S., each year In North America, there are about 25 species of venomous snakes, which include rattlesnakes, copperheads (water moccasins), cottonmouths and coral snakes If you’re in an area where venomous snakes may be present, keeping your dog on a leash is one of the best snake bite deterrents, as it keeps pets from roaming into areas where snakes are hiding Most dogs with venomous snake bites require antivenin to prevent serious illness, and the faster you begin treatment, the better You may not witness the snake bite your dog, so if you notice symptoms such as swelling, bleeding, pain or weakness and live in an area with venomous snakes, seek emergency veterinary care right away My notes: While snakes are needed, we still have to have respect for them!

Snakes are good to have around. I don't think we have poisonous ones here.

www.barkandwhiskers.com/pet-snakes Story at-a-glance A survey of 744 snake owners worldwide revealed that many pet snakes are suffering because their owners aren’t caring for them properly 54.7% of snake owners kept their snakes in enclosures shorter in length or height than their body, which means they were unable to fully stretch out 24% did not check the temperature in their snake’s enclosure daily as recommended; 48.1% of the snake owners did not measure the humidity in their snake’s enclosure Snakes kept in enclosures that were smaller than one snake length were more likely to experience physical symptoms than snakes kept in larger enclosures Many of the snakes exhibited behavioral issues associated with stress in captivity If you’re willing to put in the effort to care for these creatures correctly, captive-bred snakes can thrive in captivity and make interesting pets My notes: This is quite sad! Snakes have their place in the world & IMO, it’s not as pets. Being in an aquarium is not humane.

While not a fan of them, they still have a role to play. Without their anti venom, many people might not be alive today.

Yeah, snakes are cool but shouldn't be as pets.

Snakes can be cool but I much rather not be near any, knowing my luck it be a rattlesnake if anything lol. I also rather not be wrapped up by one either.

I do know that in the UK, many people tend to have snakes as pets. I recently found out that the people who live 3 doors down from me have a snake and just yesterday she was outside with it allowing the kids to hold it and see it. I personally didn't go to close as I have a fear of snakes.

Yeah, we like having them here but don't want to put them in harm's way.

Snakes being social most certainly seems to be a thing as it is rare to find them alone, sure you might only see one, but there are almost always more nearby. As pets... I don't mind it, but I don't find them very interactive and are better described as a display pet than a true pet IMO. Although I do agree that most people don't take proper care of them, but that also seems to be the case with most pets.
