"If you know a loved one who tends to sit in the passenger seat of a car with their feet up on the dash, please let them know that this position is leading to severe injuries where airbags that go off on impact send the passenger's knees into the face at a crushing velocity. I read about this several years ago, and heard from two people in August 2016 who asked for some advice on treatment options related to this mechanism of injury. With the efficacy and force of airbags that are employed in vehicles today, it's vital that we keep our feet down and our seat belts secured. Please spread this message among loved ones who may not be aware of the potential consequences of propping their feet up in moving vehicles."
My notes: I wanted to share this. Originally from Ben Kim's newsletter back in 2016.

I never heard of anyone sitting in a car with their feet on the dashboard. Is it common?

I did it all the time! Esp. when we had the long drive north to visit my husband's family. When I showed this to my husband, he helped remind me to put my feet back down until I got in the habit.

Yeah, with air bags now, you could get in just a little fender bender, and have the bag go off, and get hurt. Good advice.

I never heard of anyone sitting in a car with their feet on the dashboard. Is it common? Yes. Especially for younger people. "I think" girls do it more than boys.

Aaah... this reminds me of the 1970s... Summer in southern California, sitting in the front passenger seat, with the window down, air blowing in, and bare feet up the dash, smoking a cigarette, while being driven down the Highway 101, while Elton John's "Crocodile Rock" is blaring out of the radio.
Never had such a "free like an eagle" kind of feeling ever again in my life.
