I am sure it is really hard for you to be harsh to your pets. But I have seen people who choose to mildly harsh so that their relationship is better. Do you try something like that?

People have to realize punishing & training are two different things. I don't punish our pets, I may get mad & annoyed, but I've learned to take that step back & realize 1- either they are just being their own species or 2- if it's out of the ordinary, maybe they are in pain. If an animal is doing something wrong, I blame the human for not training properly.

My kitty is pretty well behaved so I don’t have to punish her often. I have a few rules, not allowed on the table or kitchen counter, no scratching the furniture and no chewing wires. I would use the spray bottle. She always goes and hides in the closet. But she knows the rules and behaves herself.

No, I don't punish mine at all, my cat and dog are very well behaved however the dog will get into mischief now and then but she is looking for attention at that point. Hitting an animal is just wrong and people that do it should not have them.
In dogs' eyes, we are everything and should be treated as such.

Don't punish physically. May teach them with words.

Punishing is not always hurting badly. But a gesture may take long strides towards improvement.
