My dad sent me a pic of a flower he hadn't seen before that's in his yard. He's lived at this house for 2 years now and he's still clearing away a lot of things in his yard that were overgrown when he moved in. The previous owners had a nice garden with a lot of different flowers.
Anyway, I believe the flower is the Star of Persia. Does anyone have this in their yard? My dad read that it's edible...is that true?

lammchen, I don't have the Star of Persia in my yard nor have I seen it. It's of the Allium species so it's liken to the onion. plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/allium-cristophii "Bulbs and stems are edible raw or cooked. However, the plant also has poisonous characteristics as noted in the "Poisonous to Humans" section of this record. Toxicity can depend on the age of the person or animal, the age of the plant, the part of the plant ingested, how much is ingested, whether the person or animal has sensitivities or allergies, whether it's eaten raw or cooked, and so forth. Consult with a medical professional for further details."

That's the exact shape of the flower, but his were gray! At least that's how his picture showed, so maybe in real life they're purple?
