naturalwestmichigan.com/keeping-sneakers-out-of-the-landfill"Athletic shoes last 300 to 500 miles, and because they’re made of many different materials, most cities can’t recycle them. Sneakers often contain synthetic substances like ethylene-vinyl acetate to keep them from breaking down while we work out, but those same polymers also render our kicks nonbiodegradable...." My notes: What do you do to expand the life of your shoes? I'm not a major athlete so I don't run on hard pavement nor work in factory work so they last a long time.

I finally retired a pair of hiking boots I had for over 20 years.

I really push my shoes. They either have to sole fall off or the thread wears down to nothing. I never buy shoes worth getting new soles on them. My work boots last around 1-2 years, which isn't terrible as I often do 5-10 miles of walking at work, and my sneakers are probably 5 years old and going well. Granted this set of sneakers appears to be tearing around the eyelets, so that might be an early end to them in a year or two.

I have to buy new shoes for work every year or two. I too do a lot of walking. I get new insoles to help them last longer.
