www.barkandwhiskers.com/2024-04-27-how-to-tell-if-your-cats-panting-is-cause-for-concernStory at-a-glance Unlike dogs, cats rarely pant; however, it’s a myth that panting in cats always indicates a significant concern If a cat’s panting is over quickly and occurs after strenuous exercise or play, after he’s been outdoors in warm weather, or during stressful events such as car rides or vet visits, there’s no cause for immediate panic Beyond occasional, fleeting episodes with an obvious cause, panting in cats should be investigated further If your cat is panting continuously or consistently, it’s time to make an appointment with your veterinarian; try to use your cell phone to grab a video of the behavior to show to your vet My notes: I've seen our cats pant a bit when it was very hot out. We have a walkout basement where they are, to the fenced enclosure facing the North side. They have a kitty door so always have the option of coming in to the cooler basement.

I have seen my parent's cats pant before. They were hot, but my parents cooled them off and they were fine afterwards. My parents got kicked out of their house and was staying with my grandmother but she didn't want the cats to be inside her home... Thankfully she let them bring the cats in to cool off and shortly after my parents got a new place to live.

Dusty was asthmatic so I knew as soon as she started she needed her inhaler.

Yeah, when they are too hot, I've seen ours pant. Not too often though.

Cats know to go where it's cool but they need a cool place to actually GO to! Dusty was asthmatic so I knew as soon as she started she needed her inhaler. I never had a cat that was asthmatic. Is it similar to how it is for humans? Yeah, when they are too hot, I've seen ours pant. Not too often though. Here too.
