healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2021/01/24/benefits-of-seniors-owning-pets.aspx Story at-a-glance National non-profit Pets for the Elderly has paid a portion of pet adoption fees for nearly 100,000 people aged 60 and older Pets for the Elderly is also now offering a new option to help cover the costs of routine veterinary care, surgeries, pet food, grooming and in-home visits for seniors with adopted pets Research shows senior citizens with canine companions are more physically active than non-dog owners Walking their dogs caused helped seniors in the study to meet internationally recognized exercise goals; they also had fewer continuous periods of sitting down than non-dog owners Dogs also offer their humans many physical and emotional benefits beyond exercise, including alleviating loneliness, reducing stress and increasing optimism My notes: Looks like this is a special organization helping senior citizens adopt pets. What goes around comes around!

Love to see this happening. So many lonely people in our world and so many homeless pets. They would make wonderful companions!

Seniors can benefit quite a bit from owning pets. Mainly because it may give them a companion. A lot of older people get lonely and don't have anyone there to talk to them. Older people can value something like that a lot. Really helps with stress too if you have a dog or a cat.

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/04/28/meals-on-wheels-for-pets.aspx Story at-a-glance In a partnership with PetSmart Charities, Meals on Wheels began a three-year program in 2019 to provide home-delivered pet meals and veterinary care to pets of homebound seniors Nearly 100% of clients receiving home-delivered meals were strongly attached to their pets and reported that their pet brings them happiness By helping seniors provide food and veterinary care for their pets, Meals on Wheels has helped nearly 17,000 older adults keep their pet companions Overall, 81% of the seniors receiving pet assistance from Meals on Wheels said it had made it possible for them to continue caring for their pet Living with a pet has immense benefits for physical, mental and emotional health, including for seniors, 1 in 4 of whom live alone My notes: I thought this was great! Pets help humans & humans help pets. Senior citizens may need just a bit of extra help especially if they live alone or are struggling financially. Emerald, topsilver

What a neat idea! Meals on Wheels for pets, too! Especially for seniors who have a harder time getting out & about.
