"National Chocolate Cake Day celebrates the cake more people favor. And more often than not, we celebrate our special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays and weddings with cake. Why not enjoy chocolate cake on January 27th every year? In America, chocolate was consumed primarily as a beverage until the 1830s or 40s. Chocolate cakes, as we think of them today, mostly did not exist then. According to the Dover Post, the chocolate cake was born in 1765 when a doctor and a chocolate maker teamed up in an old mill. They ground up cocoa beans between huge millstones to make a thick syrup. The liquid was poured into molds shaped like cakes, which were meant to be transformed into a beverage. A popular Philadelphia cookbook author, Eliza Leslie, published the earliest chocolate cake recipe in 1847 in The Lady’s Receipt Book. Unlike chocolate cakes we know today, this recipe used chopped chocolate. Other cooks of the time such as Sarah Tyson Rorer and Maria Parloa all made contributions to the development of the chocolate cake and were prolific authors of cookbooks. The first boxed cake mix was created by a company called O. Duff and Sons in the late 1920s. Betty Crocker released their first dry cake mixes in 1947."
My notes: I do like cake, tho we don't have it too often. & when we do, it is of course organic.

I love chocolate cake, although I had no idea that there was a day devoted to it, LOL. Thanks for posting.

"National Geographic Day is observed every year on January 27 all across the nation. It is a day to pay homage to the “National Geographic Magazine” that has been up and running for over 100 years. Covering a wide array of topics from science, geography, history, and world culture, National Geographic has endlessly catered to every audience member and deserves a day to be recognized for the massive role it plays in our society...."
My notes: I've always loved reading thru these magazines. Seeing the different cultures out there.

For a magazine to be around so many years, it must be doing something right. And, it's true, without different cultures, the world would be one really boring place :-)

"Holocaust Remembrance Day – Each year on January 27th, the world remembers one of the most horrific events in modern history. This tragic event is known as the Holocaust. The holocaust occurred during WWII when Nazi Germany killed millions of innocent victims. The day is also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. Nazi Germany is one of the evilest regimes that ever existed. They persecuted and killed millions of people in just under four years. One group in particular that suffered were those of the Jewish faith. It is believed that six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust. The Nazis’ persecution of the Jews became a genocide."
My notes: There are other events that have killed many people that we can not forget.

We need to remember the Holocaust...we must make sure nothing like that EVER happens again.
And, never forget the millions of lives lost during this horrible and tragic event.

Steve, You're so right...and it's beyond sad! A good start is with schools and parents...education is key. Kids need honest teachers who will actually tell them the TRUTH

"Punch the Clock Day is celebrated annually on January 27. It is a day to recognize the ‘punch the clock’ system of clocking in and out of work. Other names for the punch clock include time clock, time recorder, or clock card machine. Most companies have moved away from the original mechanical time clock to computer-based ones that use smartphone or tablet technology. But the concept is still very much applicable, and while we’ll admit that it is one of the more random holidays, it is more important than we realize. Without the invention of the punch clock, the work lives of hourly wagers would be different than the ones we know today."
My notes: What is it called there? My jobs always called it Time Clock.

We call it Time Clock not Punch Clock. A lot of people do it right on their phone. Have to be so many feet from it. So they don’t have to wait in line.
