www.freetheocean.com/answers/#forward Question of the day for 10-9-19:
"Many tea bags are made of plastic. How many micro-plastic particles can a single tea bag release? A single tea bag can release more than 11 billion micro-plastic particles. Meaning brewing loose leaf tea and avoiding disposable packaging can help both the environment – and possibly your health!"
My notes: I never knew that. Will have to look up individual ones to see if they are plastic free. Seriously tho? Even the cloth ones can have a ‘plastic seal’. They all look like paper. Even t-shirts can be made from 'recycled bottles'. Which then sheds into the water as microplastics.
www.greenchildmagazine.com/plastic-in-tea-bags “In order for the tea bags to seal up and keep their shape in hot liquid, a plastic polymer, namely polypropylene, must be added. Even though the amounts of plastic found in tea bags is minimal — and vary between manufacturers — it adds up to quite a bit when you look at the big picture. Due to the plastic content, conventional tea bags cannot completely decompose. This makes them a bad option for compost material and the environment… not to mention your body!”
My notes: That’s what I always said. If we just did ONE, not a big deal but it accumulates in our bodies from a wide variety of things. Can’t avoid all of them but can sure do our part to not CONTRIBUTE. There's not much info on which contain/ don't contain plastics except for individual blogs from people who, like me, ASK questions.
So far I got these:
YES contains plastic- Red Rose, Tazo
NO doesn’t contain plastic- Celestial seasonings, Choice Organic, Equal Exchange, Mighty Leaf, Numi, Republic of tea, Yogi
