www.familyhandyman.com/article/shrub-guide "They're a landscape mainstay, second only to trees in stature. Our handy guide will help ensure your shrubs get the attention they deserve. Shrubs get the short shrift. That’s not only a tongue-twister, it’s sadly a statement of fact. Homeowners may look to the beauty of flowers, productivity of vegetables and majesty of trees. But shrubs are often overlooked. Yet shrubs are a critical part of the ecosystem. They’re found throughout the world and play an important role in stabilizing soil, storing carbon and supporting myriad insect and animal species. And that’s before we even talk about their ornamental value, which has increased markedly over the past two decades, thanks to skilled plant breeding...." My notes: We planted some new shrubs this year & this article would have come in handy for us lol What shrubs have you planted & what has worked for you? ZandraJoi, Last year had to cut down some trees because they were too close to the power lines. Thinking of Red Maple or Redbud trees, or even Sassafras to replace them. But this article has good information on shrubs, so might look into that, too. Especially the flowering shrubs, like Hydrangea & Forsythia...they're gorgeous:-)

www.birdsandblooms.com/gardening/top-10-quick-growing-shrubs"Get fantastic looking results and landscaping benefits even faster than usual with our gardening expert's picks for fast growing shrubs...." My notes: Now for some quick growing ones! We personally need that in our area. We have some Arborvitae but they are not tall, however, they have grown well.

www.birdsandblooms.com/gardening/growing-trees-shrubs-grasses/white-flowering-shrubs "If you love white flowers, good news! We found white flowering shrubs for every landscape. And many of these plants also produce fruit to attract birds...." My notes: While colors can add that pop of color, white can stand out as well. Do you have any of these? Which would you like to have? Sad to say, I don't have any. It's the "Maybe one of these days"

Nice guide, but I'm not one for bushes or shrubs, they eventually just turn out to be rather messy and ugly looking.
