How much freedom do you give your outdoor pets inside your house ? How hard is it to maintain ?

We have a walkout basement to a 6' high fenced yard with cat-fence-in around that keeps our cats in & other creatures out. I like this option the best as our cats have the best of both worlds. Being able to go outside at anytime & coming in when they want or need to. We leave the basement door opened so our dog can go in & out when we are up. For the cats tho, we keep them in the basement when we are going to bed. Even tho it's a fenced yard, small creatures still do come in & I've had to clean up body parts lol I can handle it fine in the basement where they have limited access but if they had the run of the upstairs, I honestly don't want to find body parts all over.

They're restrictive from certain rooms and being on top of things like counters and computer desk.
