Do you think The Matrix could some day be real ? People are already so much immersed in the virtual world.

No, I don't think so. Just like Gate Travel would never be real.

I hope it wouldn't be. Humans are already being dehumanized by their own accord. We don't need another reality to be less human.

Er...I kind of do. The Matrix got its ideas from gnosticism, and I'm a Gnostic.

Elon Musk is already talking about electronic chips inside the human body. Brain, if I remember correctly.

Like vaccine, they will make it mandatory at airport and places where we need security clearance.

Gnosticism - Gnostic Christianity, in my case - is based on the idea that we ascend to heaven through knowledge of our self (and the divine nature within). Creation, as it is, is a flawed construct by a god which is in some way false...so we need to transcend it.
When the Wachowskis wrote The Matrix, they were very influenced by Gnosticism: the idea that the world is "not real", and that we have to discover our true natures in order to rise above it.

Thank you for that explanation. It's always fascinating learning new things I'm not religious, I'm an ex-christian actually. I know of many other spiritual & religious people who believe that this world is "not real". I feel if it helps someone & doesn't hurt others (meaning doesn't force the beliefs on others), then that is what matters.

Yeah, I didn't want to go too much into it, given that your forum has "secular" right there in the title! I figured it was okay since I was asked...and yes, I fully respect anyone else's beliefs as their personal reality.
I have an opt-in Religion and Philosophy forum at Atlantic. We discuss things like definitions of reality, the Paradox of Tolerance, the Problem of Evil in religion, whether or not we are living in a simulation, and so forth. Besides being an action movie, The Matrix touched on a lot of these questions, which is why I liked it so much.
