healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2021/11/17/dog-excessive-licking-of-surfaces.aspxStory at-a-glance Dogs who develop an obsession with licking surfaces (e.g., floors, carpets, walls, furniture, his owner’s legs, hands, or arms), called “excessive licking of surfaces” (ELS) often have a gastrointestinal disorder A 2012 study demonstrated that after treatment for their GI disorders, almost 60% of dogs showed significant improvement in ELS behaviors, and over half had complete resolution Unfortunately, the treatment the dogs received involved drugs and commercial ultraprocessed elimination diets, so it’s unlikely the improvement in their conditions was sustained Any dog with ELS should be evaluated for digestive disorders; treatment of GI disease in most cases should begin with appropriate dietary changes, beneficial supplements, and alternative therapies My notes: Our dogs never were big lickers at all. It could also be from boredom as well.

Yeah. Our dogs aren’t big lickers either. So if I did see it, I’d know something was wrong.
