healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2021/12/17/dog-antibiotics.aspx Story at-a-glance The health of your dog’s gut microbiome reflects her overall health, because 70% of his immune system resides in his digestive tract There are many factors that can have a negative impact on your dog’s microbiome; one of the worst is antibiotics, which are routinely overprescribed in veterinary medicine To maintain a healthy gut, most dogs today can benefit from supplementation with beneficial bacteria, including probiotics and fermented foods When selecting a probiotic supplement for your dog, make sure it’s high quality and formulated specifically for pets My notes: Just like with humans, antibiotics should be used sparingly & they can affect the gut health. Too often they are used for every little thing.

Very, very true, antibiotics are used far too frequently these days and can really impact your gut health or your furry friend's gut health if not used carefully. I always supplement with probiotics when taking any kid of antibiotic, it might be overkill, but I don't want to wipe out the good while killing off the bad.

This has made me think about my toddler when I've been advised by her pediatrician to supplement her diet with probiotics whenever antibiotics are being taken. Unfortunately antibiotics does not discriminate against good and bad bacteria, it attacks all of them.
