Do you gift expensive presents to your family or friends? What motivates you?

We don't do gifts anymore but even when we did, we didn't go over the top with the price. We felt it was more the thought than anything. I love to gift "time". I think that is priceless

Great!!
It is nice to show that we care. Most people love and do not know how to show it.

I sometimes go overboard with gifts. Never really cared about the money on such occasions.

I sometimes go overboard with gifts. Never really cared about the money on such occasions. I would go overboard as well. Problem with that was, people felt they had to do quid pro quo. If I saw something at a store that I knew somebody would like, I would get it for them, regardless of a birthday or holiday coming up. Then they'd feel obligated to do the same. Took the joy & love out of doing something nice for somebody.

That is correct. But I still do. A habit that I couldn't resist.

spg, ZandraJoi, Bob, I don't gravitate towards expensive gifts. My friends and family don't think along those lines, either. We're more about being together and that's pretty priceless. Now, if you need a new car or something important, like groceries, paying bills...you're already spending enough...lol

We don't give expensive gifts unless it's specifically requested. For example for a few months my mother in law would bring up in conversation how she can't do certain things on her TV so we, and sister-in-law chipped in to replace her TV.

If I can buy the world and gift it to my mother specifically, I wouldn't hesitate. I love that woman more than my own life.

I have given my parents a few nice things, but most of the gifts I give out has more meaning than money worth. Which it should be as money based gifts don't mean as much.

Shortly after I joined the Navy my father called and asked if he could borrow what at the time was a fairly large sum of money. Being a single sailor I had the money and I said of course except that you aren't borrowing it, it's a gift. You guys raised me for 18 years, the least I could do is give you something that you need back.

When our parents do so right by us, we owe it to them to repay everything in ways we can without breaking ourselves in the process. I know your Dad must have been very proud he raise a decent young man!

Thank you heatman. He was. Women are constantly surprised when I insist they go through a door while I hold it open for them. I was brought up with manners and how to be a gentleman. My folks were good people.

heatman, Steve, I was raised right as well & will do whatever I can to help my parents out! They are my best friends. It's nice to see others take care of their parents. & for being a "gentleman", I'm a female & I love when the door is held open for me & "Ladies first". Chivalry is not dead for some of us. I'm married to a great man who holds doors open not just for me but for others. It's nice

Good ladies deserve to be treated right.
