Yep, we've pretty much stayed in one area of the house, or blocked off rooms.
Years ago we used to burn wood but don't anymore. And the candle heater...that's a good idea!

I think some people still like having chimneys in their houses for this reason to have a way of heating up the house when they need to and there's no power.

Thank you for sharing - will definitely look into these at a later date in the colder months ahead. With this being said, it can be a good idea to look at buying a portable power station with a minimum of 1000w where you can plug in a portable heater that is electric, of the grid incase of a powercut. Some good advice there but I would check my home insurance before trying to use a kerosene heater.

We lost heat in the middle of winter once, managed to use electric heaters and the oven to make the apartment bearable. If I didn't have any electricity at all, then I go somewhere else, despite damage being done to the pipes.
