healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/02/26/how-to-trim-dogs-nails-without-stress-pain.aspx Story at-a-glance Nail trims are stressful for most dogs, so the first thing you should do is get your own furry friend accustomed to having her paws touched and handled long before you try to trim her nails Keeping a stash of tiny treats on hand is an excellent way to distract most dogs who are nervous or fearful during nail trims; trimming one nail a day is fine — do only as many per session as your dog is comfortable with You can use a nail clipper or a rotary tool, depending on what your dog can tolerate and your own preference; some dogs don’t like the noise or vibration of a rotary tool, while others are unphased Your dog’s nails must be trimmed very carefully to avoid cutting into the quick; styptic powder is a must-have and should be at your fingertips before you start the nail trim My notes: Some dogs are easy to trim their nails on. Others not so much. Our 2 dogs were shy & mommy's girl so let me take care of them.

Yeah, you need to start when they are young to get used to it. Some people take them to a groomer.

Your dogs and cats might scratch you or even wound you but that is the price you have to pay for keeping pets. I am against trimming your pet's nail.

If you DO NOT trim an animal’s nails
They grow in a circle and pierce the pads of their paws
That is abuse

I always advise going to Annan experienced groomer that knows what they are doing so your pet can have their nails trimmed safely. I’d never do it myself for fear of cutting them too short or doing something wrong and causing damage and distress to the pet.
