www.barkandwhiskers.com/2024-02-26-raw-diet-vs-extruded-dietStory at-a-glance A new study shows that when it comes to amino acid digestibility and true metabolizable energy, fresh, frozen raw, and freeze-dried raw dog foods outperform extruded formulas Earlier research showed that dogs fed fresh food show positive microbiome changes and improved overall gut function Another study showed dogs eating lightly cooked and raw food had reduced blood triglyceride levels as well, even though those diets were higher in fat than extruded dog food (kibble) A nutritionally optimal, species-specific, fresh raw or gently cooked diet is always a better choice for pets than extruded diets My notes: I know some people scoff at raw pet food but people have to step back & realize that animals do not know how to cook! If humans were not on Earth, animals, & that goes for our pets, would be just fine eating what they find in the wild. Edit: Link is no longer available so replacing it with valid one.

Yeah, animals don't and can't cook! Raw food is natural for animals.

Hmm, we're so used to having 'domesticated' pets, we don't think about that aspect. But, that's very true...animals don't cook, so raw food would naturally be their choice.

Even though animals are born to eat raw, I don't think we should feed raw food to our dogs because over centuries of domestication dogs have lost their digestive power. Raw foods contain bacteria and our domesticated animals might not be able to digest raw food.

Raw foods contain bacteria and our domesticated animals might not be able to digest raw food. Same is true with humans & their digestive systems. It also has to do with the location, starting young, & the breed.

I don’t like the idea of feeding dogs raw food as it can cause bacteria to spread and cause illness in people if not prepared properly. I know that obviously as a wild animal raw meat is what they would probably eat but I think it’s not nice.
