www.familyhandyman.com/article/how-to-tell-if-youre-using-too-much-laundry-detergent "Are You Using Too Much Laundry Detergent? We live in an age where more is often better — more food, more drink, more clothes, more money and so on. Even with the simplest things in life, like washing your clothes, it’s natural to conclude that more is better. But you can make a lot of mistakes with your laundry, including overloading on detergent. Knowing how much laundry detergent to use can save your laundry, your washing machine and your wallet. While it seems logical that more suds in the machine would mean squeaky clean garb, it’s actually quite the opposite, according to laundry experts like Mary Gagliardi, a.k.a. Dr. Laundry, a scientist at The Clorox Company...." My notes: More is not better. I make my own laundry soap with baking soda, borax, essential oils, castile soap. You really don't need a bunch to get clothes clean.

I agree...and, especially for laundry soap, more is NOT better. Too much soap will not get your clothes cleaner...in fact, it makes them dingy and can make your skin itch.

There are small packs of detergents I buy in dozens. I cut out one and make use of it whenever I want to use the washing machine.

I like to think I don't use too much, but I rather use a bit more than not enough. Though I know there are people out there who can go cray with how much they put in.

This is how I would rather go at it with using because it's the only way you get your laundry washed well and not still smelling awful cos of not using enough detergent.
