I really do sometimes. It was cool when everybody had personal websites and they came up in the search engines. Now only business websites that are trying to sell you something come up in the search engines. 😒

That is very true. Commercial results are dominating. Knowledge content has taken a back foot.

I do miss it! When we first started, it was on WebTV. Forums were bigger & more popular on top of everybody's personal websites. Then came Social Media where forums took a nosedive. Even running a simple forum or website requires some tech knowledge. I miss the WebRings we used to have. That connected all of our personal forums & sites. Life was "easier" at the beginning 'cos we didn't have as much. Now unless you have a huge site, it won't stick out.

And won't rank on Google.

Yeah, SEO is a lost cause these days. In fact, it's not even worth it, unless you want to dish out to an SEO company. Who has thought about doing that or going alone?

While I have heard of SEO, I'm not familiar enough with it in being confident in how to go about it. How much would it be for an SEO company?

It is like promoting our websites in so many ways. Simplest of which is to hire a company to do it.
They will make sure that our website tops on Google.

Yes, I do! It was simpler times and easy to use.
Now, it's just way too big!

Yes I really do miss the old days of the internet when websites were a lot more simple and forums were more popular. Nowadays it's all about apps and social media networks and I do honestly believe we've become less connected with all of this new tech compared to the old days about 10 years ago. It's sad.

I too believe we have become less connected. People are more worried about their "likes" & how many "friends" they have.

I definitely miss the old days of the internet. Forums were booming, and Youtube was brand new and you could actually customize your channel background too.

I have seen people offering $1000 USD and more. But it varies a lot based on the company and packages we choose.

Some forum owners were/are really rude. It is good that we do not have to rely solely on forums.
Running a forum needs tech knowledge. That is also a bad thing for creative people.

Wonder why they changed that feature? I have seen people offering $1000 USD and more. But it varies a lot based on the company and packages we choose. That's good to know. Thank you Some forum owners were/are really rude. It is good that we do not have to rely solely on forums. Running a forum needs tech knowledge. That is also a bad thing for creative people. If the Staff aren't around to moderate, I don't bother.

ZandraJoi, They probably got rid of the feature when Google bought them out. It was like Myspace in a way, you could add your own channel background and funny enough I was going through my old emails and I forgot Youtube had a friend function at some point too, where people would ask to become friends with you rather than just subscribe to you.

Interesting! Sounds like it was part Social Media. I think it'd be cool if they ever brought that back.

Social media has really harmed society and has put pressure on people to be something they’re not. It’s almost meant business has flooded the social aspects that were once for individuals and it’s just become a big advert.

I used the internet for the first time in 2001. However, the internet was very expensive back then, therefore, I did not start using the internet regularly until 2003. The Internet in 2003 was pretty the same as the internet in 2022, except a few things, of course.

Let's see, I got on the internet around 2006 or 2007 and it was still in a pretty good place then. I don't miss the dial-up needed in order to connect, but I do miss how youtube videos were more fun and creative and forums were every along with cringe but fan made websites. These days its all about facebook or twitter, not much creativity going on really, which is pretty sad.

I totally agree your point and these website content are too for selling products, but not for the user studies. These days gone hard for searching information on Internet, hope this will be solved in the future.
On the other hand the social media is only for politics and nothing for us, why does these politicians are involved when they have parliament and offices?

In my time the old internet was dial up times so no i do not miss them times but i do miss the times just before social media, the communities always used forums and chat systems these were and still are the best forms of talking and sharing because they are properly moderated as i have seen in many places on social media lots of bullies and hate even though it was initially a great idea for social media i think they have just got worse over time controlling the content, where as forums and the older ways was more community and still love forums and spend most my time on these platforms than social media.
so early internet no i like fast net speeds, before social media yes i do miss.
