healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/04/12/arthritis-in-older-cats.aspx Story at-a-glance About 45% of all cats — and 90% of cats 10 years and older — have some degree of arthritis pain; fortunately, pain in older cats is finally getting the breadth and depth of research it deserves Current studies include evaluating how chronic inflammation caused by arthritis or other diseases affects mental sharpness in cats; medical protocols for pain management; and drug-free, noninvasive pain relief strategies Cats are notorious for masking pain, so it's important to watch for behavioral changes that indicate discomfort; there's also a 6-question checklist you can use to quickly determine if your cat may be in pain Cats with arthritis require a multimodal treatment approach that includes lifestyle modifications, nontoxic pain control, and a customized oral protocol that includes chondroprotective agents It's important for both you and your veterinarian to continuously monitor your arthritic cat and make adjustments as necessary to treatment protocols My notes: Arthritis is hard & painful on humans. Just imagine what it is like when your pet can't tell you how bad they feel.

My cat is almost 14 years old and I've been keeping an eye out on him. My wife and I bought a stair case for him to climb up on our bed rather than jumping up, but he doesn't like using it. :V I often just pick him up myself.

One's 15, the other is 14. We have an ottoman for the couch & Sterlites for when they are outside (we have an enclosure) to get up on the swing. Our 14 y/o is a tri-paw so he's really struggling. We pick him up to help him as well.

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/07/19/how-to-care-for-senior-cat.aspx Story at-a-glance Cats are officially seniors by the time they reach 11 years of age, and “super seniors” at 15 and beyond; kitties today often live well into their teens and early 20s At around age 11, most cats have slowed down a bit, are more easily stressed in response to changes in their routine or environment and begin to develop the same types of health problems older humans face A 12 to 15-year-old cat is likely to have some vision and hearing loss, and can also develop age-related cognitive dysfunction; kitties at this age tend to do a lot more napping Kitties at 16 or older are moving and thinking more slowly and have probably developed a few age-related health issues; signs that your cat is in pain can include hiding, panting, shortness of breath, teeth grinding, loss of interest in food, or reluctance to move around There are many things you can do to help your aging cat enjoy a good quality of life, including feeding the right nutrition, providing opportunities for exercise and environmental enrichment, offering beneficial supplements, and setting aside time each day to have positive interactions with your pet My notes: Our 2 elderly cats nap a lot. They are still quite loving. Bob, ravenfreak,
