Garlic worked with most insects as I have did once upon a time by spraying over the plant, due to the smell insects wont come towards the plant.
This is a organic cure for the plants protection from insects.

Anything for deer? My grandma had to give up her roses because the deer kept eating away at them. Tried several sprays, but nothing much worked sadly since they moved in the area.

I have roses but I believe the smell of our dog repels the deer from eating the roses & other plants we have. If your grandma is not open to getting a dog, some resort to asking friends for pet fur to put around. Another option people use is dryer sheets. Depending on where the roses are, could she fence them in? There's also ultrasonic. I haven't had luck with those for moles but they may work better for deer. Bright lights may work with a motion sensor.

I have about a dozen varieties of roses in my garden, however, until now I did not know that garlic protects roses from bugs and fungal diseases. I might try gralic for my roses.
