Urbex or "Urban exploration" is the act of exploring abandoned structures. I've only attempted to do this twice, the first time my wife and I couldn't get into the house we wanted to explore so we just looked at the house from the outside and looked in the yard. We left after she got a bad vibe from this UHaul truck that was parked in the backyard. The second time we wanted to explore the old cotton belt freight depot, but couldn't really find a good spot to get inside since it was summertime and plants covered the entrance. There was another abandoned building behind that one, we were going to explore but we heard music blaring from the building. So instead, she took pictures of the buildings around the area. In one of the pictures you can see a guy watching us from one of the broken out windows in the building I wanted to explore! We left and then I heard a train whistle and wanted to wait for the train to come by. It never did, so I suppose it was on another track nearby. As we were waiting, the guy that was watching us from the window came around the corner with two other people and they all had backpacks. They walked right past us, I still don't know if they were just homeless people, drug dealers/gang members, or just explorers. They were still blaring music as they walked past us. We just left afterwards.

I have never heard of this but I also live rural. I'd be concerned if this is legal. As even abandoned buildings are owned by 'someone', even if it is just the State.

No. Never heard of it. Wouldn’t this be trespassing if you don’t have permission?

I have never heard of this. We also live rural, so this wouldn't even interest me:-) There is the question of legality, too. And, if it's abandoned, it could also be condemned, which would possibly make it dangerous, too

I mean it's technically not legal but you have to be sneaky about it. However I do know of urbexers who got permission to check out a few places. I enjoy watching videos of people exploring these buildings and I love seeing pictures too. There is a site called "Abandoned but not forgotten" that's been online for years. It's got many old photos of abandoned buildings, there used to be a forum too but sadly the forum was taken offline sometime in the mid to late 10's... I think it's fine as long as you respect the building, and be careful. And that's what most urban explorers do, they just take pictures and leave footprints behind. (Meaning they don't vandalize or steal things.)

Sounds like you may have had some really bad calls there, also what kind of bad vibe from the Uhaul?
But I wouldn't do it mostly from what you experienced, if it's abandon, it is abandon for a good reason and bad reasons will gather around it lol.

I have never heard about these things and what I seen abandon buildings will remain here closed forever. Their are some building which are not allowed inside, however most countries have different laws.
