www.familyhandyman.com/article/winter-leaves "Understanding the purpose of winter leaves can create a healthier lawn, while giving soil and wildlife a boost. For some, a lawn carpeted with leaves is a perennial hassle of autumn. For others, those leaves offer a windfall of free mulch and fertilizer. Whether you like them or not, fallen leaves play an important role in your yard’s life cycle...." My notes: Included: Has The Thinking About Raking Leaves Changed Over The Years? Why Do Leaves Change Colors as the Weather Changes? Why Do Trees Lose Their Leaves? Do Some Trees Lose Their Leaves in One Part of the Country and Not in Another? Which Trees Keep Their Leaves During Winter? What Happens To Leaves During Winter? Is It Bad To Leave Leaves on the Ground? This is quite informative. Has this answered some of your questions you had? Or didn't think you had lol

I never minded the autumn leaves...they're pretty. And, they make good mulch, too

We leave ours on the lawn to fertilize it and give protection to the insects when it's really cold. We clear the driveways though and footpaths as they get so slippery and dangerous to walk on.

There's a creek behind our house so we raked the majority of our leaves down in the creek. We kept some though, it makes for good fertilizer.
