It’s where neighbors get together. Sometimes they ask local officials to block off parts of the street so they can set up food stations, games, etc. We never have.

We've never had one that large. Several neighbors will barbecue and others make tater salad and stuff. We'd all congregate around one house or another.
Would have liked to have done a block party.

Not that I can remember, don't think it was ever a thing where I'm from.

A long time ago, one block up from the street I grew up on, my grandparents and all their neighbors hosted one from like the 80s to early 2000s. It would still maybe going, but most either passed away, moved, and the new neighbors that came in didn't seem to care for the party. It's a shame because it was fun, every grilled in the park that was located on that street, put up a net for volley ball and other games in the street, it was just a great time.

The college town near us used to have a Block party for decades and it was okay. Mostly drinking and bar crawls, but no one minded. The last 10 years saw a huge decline in how people handled it and after numerous arrests, felonies, and deaths, the event was canceled. It still lives on a little bit, but currently attending the event will result in a night in jail and being banned from the university, so it is not all too popular.

Deaths? Damn, sorry to hear it spiraled so much out of control. I wonder what kind of bad crowd fell into your area to make that happen?

The whole thing just escalated. People would often travel in just for Block Party. It was basically doomed once it got too popular.
