Some companies spend a lot of money sponsoring sports.
Is this an effective way of advertising?
When an athlete endorses a product, are you more likely to want that product?

Here, most advertising companies like Boost and Horlicks make advertisements with the top players, but we always go with the tasty ones rather than those fake advertisements.

When I was younger and more gullible...I might've believed a lot of things.
Now, though, any ads, sponsors or athletes endorsing ANYTHING...would make me LESS likely to buy it.

I'm sure it is, otherwise they wouldn't spend so much money on it . I don't think I've ever consciously bought something because of sponsorship... but I'm sure I will have done so sub-consciously!

I think it’s effective but it doesn’t affect my choice. I might check it out but doesn’t mean I’ll buy it. I won’t go out of my way to buy it if I didn’t want it just because my favorite athlete endorsed it.

Depends on the company, not sure why Coke or Pepsi puts so much out since everyone knows who they are. Though I'll pay attention if it's something I haven't heard or looks interesting.

I would say it is a very effective way of advertising a product especially if the players or even the team that they are sponsoring is popular. I have found especially over here in the UK that with football, a lot of what is advertised through sponsors many people tend to want to buy and get their hands on so it can be a very effective way to get your products out to new potential customers.

I mean it must work as they wouldn't do it otherwise! Personally I couldn't care less about a famous person endorsing a product but I understand its a big thing for younger people.

Whether we like it or not, the companies doing this are just doing it for spending sake. They have a lot of money and careless whether such endorsements will rake in sales for them. That is the least of what they bother about.

I'd say its effective because its the only place where the ads will be seen. People fast forward through commercials or pay extra for ad-free tv services, but they cannot NOT see the ads plastered on the walls of the arena where the sport is being played.
If an athlete endorses a product will I be more likely to buy it? No.

The truth is that some of those companies do that just for popularity sake and not as means to sell more. They want to have their products, especially when they have a new product, registered in the minds of people.
