What do you do when you trying to play a game or board games with friends and your pets want attention instead? Do you give it or try and shoo them out of the room so you can focus on your own stuff for awhile?

Pet it. Always. Animals feel rejection and depression just like we do.

There are times it can be annoying but it IS just a game. You won't have your furbaby forever. I've had some cats be content with just sitting on my lap on a pillow. They didn't need me to interact with them; they just wanted to be on my lap. For our dog, I can usually play with one hand & pet her with the other. She doesn't ask for much & doesn't stay around too long. But we also make sure to spend extra time with our furbabies BEFORE we will be playing games.

Been playing DnD at two different places and both times (as both places have cats), the cats that are there hop onto tables and just flop down wanting to be pet. Which we do but eventually we set them off to the side so we can keep going.

When we had our cat before she passed last year, she would always want attention when I was busy on a video game or even just playing a board game with my kids. I would always pet her if she wanted the attention as I know with any kind of animals, they can take rejection the same way we do as humans and if you shoo them away rather than petting them, it can affect their mood.

Whenever I am busy on my laptop one of the two dogs here will just go into a little ball and sit on the floor right next to me. It's really cute! The other dog doesn't really care. It's amazing how much pets care just to sleep next to you.

Take the time to play with it, pet it, cuddle with it. They can feel rejection when they don't get pet.

I give my cat some attention if he ever comes up to me while I'm playing a video game, and then I return to my game. When I was younger, whenever my parents, sister and I would play a board game together one of our cats would sometimes try to lay on the board. We would pet her for a little bit and then try to get her off the board. xD She then would attempt to jump on one of our backs since she loved jumping on people's backs because she liked chewing people's hair for some reason. xD She was the strangest cat I've ever had.
