1. If you're in a boat directly over the deepest point of the Mariana's Trench, and you have a passenger jet cruising at 30,000 feet above you, you are closer to the jet than to the bottom of the ocean.
2. Tarantulas can swim.
3. Roaches are natural burrowers. They also can't walk backwards. There have been cases where they burrow into people's ears but cannot get themselves out.
4. The width of a lightning bolt is roughly 2-3 cm while the average length is about 2-3 miles.
5. A bolt of lightning can reach 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. For some perspective, the surface of the sun is 10,340 degrees Fahrenheit!

1. Your calf muscles act as a pump for your lymph fluid, which is basically the garbage pick-up and immunity doordash of your body. Without flexing your calf, the fluid has no way of moving against gravity. Each time we walk, the muscles contract, squeezing the fluid back up towards the core for processing. That's why sitting for long periods causes swelling in the legs.
2. C4 will just burn if put into a fire, soldiers used it to cook food in Vietnam.
3. Pure C4 also gets you high if you eat it. They started adding a compound into it that makes you violently sick to stop people from doing that.
4. Cement and concrete are not the same thing. Cement is the main ingredient in concrete, but concrete is the whole mixture of cement, sand, aggregate, water, etc.
5. An elevator will go up to the top of the hoist instead of crash to the floor in most catastrophic failures due to the counterweights.

2. Did not know that!
3. Eww! I've heard of that as well. Not just with roaches but bugs, spiders, etc.
4. It looks so bright & big though! 5. Wow! You'd think it'd do more damage then with the lightning strikes!

Never in my life did I even think that! But, why not! Animals just use theirs for reproduction & urinating. So why not use it for other things.

1. The reason you get chills from a fever isn't because you're physically cold. It's the brain setting your body temp higher to fight the infection and tricking your body into thinking the temperature is wrong so the chills can help increase heat.
2. The smoot is a unit of measure named for Oliver R. Smoot, an MIT student who as a fraternity pledge was forced to measure the Harvard Bridge using himself as a ruler. A smoot is equal to five feet, seven inches.
3. People didn't know TNT was explosive for 28 years and used it as yellow dye instead.

Another interesting fact about Legos. How can they stay so precise? This is another question & answer but explains it I believe:
"Why is LEGO so ridiculously expensive? Why has LEGO become so expensive nowadays? The first thing to consider is the cost of production. Lego is a company that prides itself on its quality, and this means using high-quality materials and ensuring strict quality control. As a result, the cost of producing Lego sets has increased over the years."
So they can stay so precise by their pride of quality & justify the cost with that quality.

1. If you work 40 hours a week and spend 10 minutes a day pooping it equals a whole week of paid vacation per year.
2. The act of cannibalism is not illegal in the Netherlands. If you were to aquire human flesh in a legal way, you are allowed to eat it.
3. Earthworms, specifically nightcrawlers are way crunchier than you think.
4. The "ALS Icebucket Challenge" actually raised enough money to create treatments for the disease (that work). It wasn't just a social media trend that went nowhere.
5. That monkeys in Ethiopia have managed to "domesticate" wild wolves by helping them hunt small rodents. The wolves now coexist with (even baby!) monkeys without ever attacking them, instead going for smaller, harder-to-catch prey!
