Some do it for just health reasons. Their doctor said giving up red meat will help. Others are in the middle & want to help not only themselves but the creatures. Top of the list are the extremists, who don't eat any meat but also don't do honey, wear leather, may be very proactive in things like Peta. I'm in the middle. I do eat meat on occasion, have fiber intolerance so it's hard to eat a lot of fruits/vegs. But I was a vegetarian for over 2 decades leaning towards vegan. Anybody else?

I am a bit of a hypocrite, as i'm a vegetarian and a paid up member of PETA, support all their values etc, but do eat dairy which actually makes me hate myself, but I honestly don't know whether I could eat enough food if I went vegan and i'm underweight as it is now.

Don't hate yourself. Just make sure it's organic, or better yet local AND organic. I would love to be a vegan but I can't eat a lot of fruits & veggies. So I understand the guilt.

I tried to be vegetarian, I didn't last a day. Haha Some honestly cannot be full vegan as their bodies need the nutrients from meat.

I have been vegetarian for a long time now, but I still eat cage-free, pasture raised eggs from time to time. In terms of dairy, I stopped drinking cow's milk a long time ago, since it upset my belly and I'm lactose intolerant anyway. Now I drink only rice milk which is delicious. I do like cheese though and typically have some daily. Yogurt and cottage cheese are more rare in my diet, unless the yogurt is vegan.
I have Crohn's disease which has been in remission for many years, and my GI doctor was very glad that I was vegetarian, since it certainly helped. Red meats in particular have a lot of inflammatory effects on the system and I have tons of patients have a hard time with GI issues because of their diet. Most of my patients who are in remission from things like Crohn's and Ulcerative colitis are on vegetarian diets and some GI doctors in my areas insist on it when other methods to achieve remission have failed.

ellyfant, @shaliza, www.gamechangersmovie.com for recipes & resources. Some post credits. My notes: I watched this movie last year. Very informative. Some notes I wrote: Bruce Lee- Research your own experiences. Absorb what is useful. Reject what is useless. Add what is specifically your own. Gladiators predominately vegetarians. Protein from meat comes first from plants the animals eat. Animals are the middle men! Patrik Babomian, strongest man, was asked How can you get strong as an ox w/o eating meat. His answer- Have you seen an ox eating meat? Endothelial cells, function better w/ plants. Beet juice before workout helps. Meat screws up microbiome & causes inflammation. Derrick Morgan, Tennessess Titans. Inflammation marker is down w/ plants. Carnivore’s teeth shaped like scissor blades vs human’s teeth, square & low cusped for plants NOT tearing/ eating meat. i.e. Gorilla plant eater, canines only used for intimidation not eating meat. B12 isn’t made by animals after all. It’s made by bacteria that these animals consume in the soil & water. Just like w/ protein, animals are only the middlemen. Before industrial farming, farm animals & humans could get B12 by eating traces of dirt on plant foods or by drinking water form rivers or streams. But now, with i.e. ‘cides (pesticides, insecticides...), antibiotics, which kill the bacteria that produce B12, even farm animals have to be given B12 supps. Up to 39% of people, incl meat eaters, are low in B12. As a result, best way for humans to get enough B12, whether eat animal foods or not, is to take a supplement. Charity Morgan professional chef & wife to Derrick, Tenn. Titans. Meat, egg, dairy cover-up for cancer. Zimbabwe Damien Mander, protect rhinos, special ops sniper, International anti-poaching, said The easiest way to protect other animals is just not to put them in your mouth. He had realized then when he saved one animal (rhino) only to eat another at night, thinking ‘cos i.e. cows (hamburgers) are not going extinct but that was besides the point. What is the single biggest source of habitat destruction? It’s the livestock sector. Meat, dairy, egg, & fish farming use 83% of the world’s farmland yet provide only 18% of the world’s cals. The reason livestock requires so much land is ‘cos, once again, animals are just the middlemen. Consuming on average, 6x more protein than they produce w/ more than 70 billion animals consumed globally each year. Growing animal feed requires vast amounts of land, making it one of the leading drivers of deforestation. It also requires huge amounts of water. One hamburger is 2400 liters of embedded water. More than ½ of humanity’s fresh water consumption goes to produce animal foods. Not just water depletion but water pollution. In US for example, farm animals produce nearly 50x more waste per year than its entire human population. Polluting rivers, lakes, etc, all across the country. The livestock sector is responsible for 15% of global man-made emissions. Perspective- ‘bout same as all the emissions from all forms of transportation in the world- all planes, trains, cars, vans, & ships, added up.

naturesplus.com/blogs/vegan-life/10-iron-rich-foods-for-vegans "Iron: It’s the stuff that helps your blood carry oxygen to your cells and your immune system do its job...among other important tasks. That makes it a critical nutrient...." My notes: Even for those who don't want to give up meat all the way, this is a good list to help keep our iron levels in check.

I mostly eat white meat. (fish, turkey, chicken) but will consume beef on occasion. I stay away from pork but will ingest ham from time to time. I do very much enjoy vegetable dishes and eat a lot of what people would call "vegetarian food". For example my favorite pizza is vegetarian pizza.

www.naturalawakenings.com/2022/02/28/389293/easing-into-a-vegan-lifestyle-clever-meat-substitutes-that-please-the-palate"Today’s wide availability of vegan meat substitutes in the grocer’s freezer helps break the ice for people that want to experiment with plant-based foods. The taste, convenience and quality of these products has improved greatly over the past decade, but like many convenience foods, some packaged faux meat products can be high in sodium or fillers. While packaged, meat-alternative products are ideal for a tasty occasional treat, there’s a whole world of options beyond the freezer aisle for those that want to expand their vegan palates...." My notes: Regardless why someone chooses to not eat meat, there are some good recipes out there that are both satisfying & filling when opting for vegan meals.

I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I know people who are, so I learn a lot from them :-) We eat a lot of fish, chicken, pork, eggs, cheeses...also lean hamburg...but it's always organic...or at least non-GMO.
About iron: Oh, yeah, lots of things have iron in them, don't have to eat meat. Green leafy veggies is always a good choice :-)

I am really against vegan/vegetarianism for Children, for adults, I don't care, whatever makes you healthy do it. But I do despise people who force their kids to eat vegan diets, it's dangerous sometimes. It is good to switch things up, and what I recommend is to see the history of your family and decide. It's generations of eating meat and your eating veggies, it might make you sick. Then again it is all individual and dependent of your opportunities. For me, in my small town, I'd die if I'd go vegan.

I have never tried a vegan diet, but I was a vegetarian for over 2 years. I did not experience any visible difference when I was a vegetarian. I started eating meat again because I started having cravings.
