www.barkandwhiskers.com/sounds-your-cat-uses-to-communicate Story at-a-glance If you have feline family members, you know that cats have a rather extensive oral repertoire — at least 21 different vocalizations, according to research Some family cats naturally meow more than others, and often their humans inadvertently or intentionally encourage them to be vocal There are several different types of feline vocalizations, and it’s important to know what’s normal for your cat There are a number of feline disorders that can cause an increase (or in some cases, a decrease) in vocalization, so a sudden or dramatic change in the frequency or loudness of your kitty’s cries should prompt a visit to your veterinarian My notes: What sounds have you heard? I didn’t realize there’d be at least 21! I know they make different sounds depending on their mood, what they are doing, etc.

The cats are very jealous especially if it is related to food or for example owner shows interest in one cat then the other cat may want to have the attention of his owner. They are like humans.

Meowing is the best way cats communicate with their own. It's their first natural instinct and reactions. They purr too and my cat does that when she's sleeping.

I honestly did not know that cats had 21 different ways to communicate. I knew they had a few and there were more than just purring, hissing, and even a meow as they tend to have different meows depending on the situation they are in. This is quite interesting to know.
When we had Smokey before she passed, she used to meow with a kitten meow, meow quite fiercely if she wanted something and also growl if she was not happy with another cat being around. She use to always purr as well and would also hiss if she was not happy with something.

My cat will automatically meow at me and my husband when it wants someone to feed it breakfast in the morning.
I feel like my cat meow's a lot or that he's pretty vocal.

www.barkandwhiskers.com/2023-07-08-cats-understand-pointing-gesturesStory at-a-glance A recent small study of cats in the U.K. indicates that like dogs and certain other domestic animals, feline family members have the ability to follow human pointing gestures The study involved just 9 cats once the original field of 200 was carefully evaluated to identify only kitties who weren’t fearful or anxious and were interested in taking part in the study These results may suggest that domestication has resulted in cats with social-cognitive abilities that allow them to communicate better with humans The results of an earlier study suggest that indoor-only cats react to their owner’s “kitty voices” (high-pitched voices), but not necessarily their normal voices; the same cats showed little to no response to the voices of strangers, even their “kitty voices” Previous research on feline communication with humans suggests that cats try to communicate with us to solicit our help when needed; however, how attentive the person is to the cat at the time determines the cat’s communication strategy My notes: What have you seen in your pet? I have seen our cats follow our fingers. Bob, sawsen, jasabong, shortie, jennyoralice,
