Who remembers this in their library? What did you think about it? Do you think it was ideal at the time or it could’ve been worked a bit better? Especially now that we have research at our literal fingertips. More & more libraries are doing away with this system. I miss it in a way. Yes, it’s nice having answers “right now” but humans have gotten to the point where we want everything now; we don’t want to work for it. & hence, feel good in the knowledge we learned something on our own. Even if it's simply looking for a book with a certain number to it.

I HATED it so much!! The librarians were so mean about it when we would go during English class to write papers and they expected us to know it as well as they did. I remember asking my teacher why we needed to know it and she was furious with me.

I do remember the Dewey Decimal System. Sure, it could've worked better, but that's what we had . And, if you were a book-lover, or had to get it for school, you figured it out

I remember it well. I actually thought it worked pretty good for my needs.

Oh yeah! How would they categorize books if they did away with it?

As a retired librarian I am very familiar with the dewey decimal system. I just find it easier to point those looking for a particular topic in the right direction.

spice, That is cool you were a librarian! Do you still volunteer? Emerald, Maybe it's a different system for your libraries there.
