I keep butter in the fridge. I rather be safe than sorry. Same with ketchup.

Both pretty much stay in the fridge.
I take a little butter out to soften it. I've also learned not to leave butter out all day long, anymore.

Ketchup until it is opened can be kept on the shelf. Once it is opened though it goes into the refrigerator.

My family goes through butter in just a bit over a week, so it just stays out, but covered up in a safe temp. Ketchup is rarely used so that stays in the fridge.

Great questions Bob! I use non-dairy butter so it's in the fridge. Ketchup, while I use a lot of it, again stays in the fridge. It's funny how restaurants keep ketchup out though.

Depending on the place, most go through several bottles each day, so it's not a problem. Plus, I think ketchup tastes better warm/room temp.

I would never leave butter outside of the fridge, due to the dairy contents and the concern of it literally melting, resulting in a huge mess when I'm home to clean up. Ketchup? We call it Tomato Sauce, same thing, but if there is no space in the Fridge, I'd have no issue storing it inside the cupboard. To be honest, it depends on personal preference.

I prefer ketchup as it is the easiest option in cooking now.

Yeah, they just stay in the fridge when they're not being used... don't want to take any chances!

I keep both in the fridge, I prefer to have cold ketchup rather than room temperature ketchup. I wouldn't keep butter out, it's sold cold and should stay cold IMO.

We would never use the ketchup fast enough to keep it out, but we do keep a stick of butter out in its butter ummm... storage plate? I have no idea what it is called.

I think it's simply called Butter Dish. Ours is in a small bowl in the fridge. How long do you keep yours out for? Taken from this topic, what do others store their butter in? Generally we just keep it out until it is gone, but one stick of butter in a family of 4 lasts us only a few days at most.

I used to always keep the butter in the fridge and the ketchup in the cupboard but once when the ketchup wasn't being used as much as I thought it would, it ended up going off and had to be thrown away.
I now keep both in the fridge and I find that they both seem to last a lot longer when they are kept in the fridge.

By the way you could prepare ketchup at home if you have time and is more healthy than this outside home.
